Do you find yourself angry at the world? Do you become angry from one moment to the next without knowing or understanding what triggered you? When used appropriately and when under control anger can be a healthy way of expressing yourself, however if you find yourself to be explosive, and turning your anger on others your overall health can be impacted and cause irreparable damage to your most valued relationships. Learn healthy age appropriate styles of coping with and expressing anger by changing negative thought processes, implementing relaxation skills to de-escalate and becoming aware of your "buttons" on a daily basis.

Anger is a feeling that carries information. Anger alerts us to the awareness that we feel threatened in some way. People often get angry because they are in emotional pain. However, showing someone that you are in pain is a more effective way to help others feel remorse for what they did than raging at them. Emotionally intense young adults do not have to destroy any more relationships with "over the top" reactions! There are more effective ways of responding. I can teach these young people simple relaxation and awareness exercises that allow them to tame their anger.

Anger is often seen as a negative feeling, however anger is just as useful as any other emotion. It shows us where we feel disrespected or mistreated. While feelings can not be wished away, thoughts that impact feelings can be challenged. In my work with anger management, I help to locate the sources of anger and teach calming and regulatory exercises to help change unhealthy behaviors associated with anger into healthier ones.

Sometimes unresolved issues with a partner or family member turn to resentment. As resentment builds up, you can become filled with anger and rage. This is when people tend to "lose control" and blame others for inappropriate behaviors. Some people even get into trouble with the law. With a partner, I have developed a new and effective model of anger management that teaches you eight proven tools for anger control. These skill-based tools include; (1) reducing stress in your life, (2) developing empathy, (3)learning to respond instead of react, (4) changing self-talk, (5) communicating assertively, (6) adjusting expectations, (7) learning to forgive, and (8) retreating and thinking things over. These tools are taught to clients both in individual consultation and in anger management classes. They are also taught in online anger management programs I have produced.

Consider anger a socially acceptable mask that we wear to protect ourselves from more vulnerable feelings. It’s easier to show anger than hurt feelings. The way I work with anger is to explore what’s fueling the anger, what’s underneath it. Once the underlying feelings are identified and acknowledged, the anger becomes less intense and more manageable. I also use a somatic approach to anger, using physiological cues to recognize it before it grows out of control.

Anger is a healthy expression of emotion. When anger and rage become the dominating emotion that rules our actions, a potentially serious problem exists. When this occurs we feel out of control, even frightened by the intensity of feeling. Scared by life altering actions and repercussions. We become lost and confused. We know this is not me but yet it is. This mystery is solvable. Sometimes when negative experiences happen we hide and bury them, We do this so well we forget why the anger is there. Over the years these experiences multiply, fester and grow. A time bomb waiting to be triggered. We can help you unearth the issues, defuse and help you to dismantle the bomb. Call! We can help.
