Nicolas
is a Registered Provisional Psychologist with the College of Alberta
Psychologists. He holds a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from City
University of Seattle. Nicolas also has a Bachelor’s of Physical Education from
the University of Alberta where he specialized in Sports Performance and Sport
Psychology. Nicolas enjoys working with individuals, couples, families, and
integrates his approach with general counselling populations as well as amateur
and professional athletes.
In
Nicolas' approach, he utilizes a form of
therapy called
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFT) which was developed by Steve de Shazer and
Insoo Kim Berg. In this approach, the client learns to build on current
abilities in order to find new ways of conquering their problems. By helping
people identify the things they wish to have changed in their lives and further
develop the skills they already have, clients begin to construct a concrete
vision for themselves and work toward making that vision a reality.
Nicolas uses a unique approach to meet client needs.
His flexible approach ensures that client’s needs are the primary focus and
that therapy is only as long as it needs to be. This allows you the client to
get back to living life faster and utilize the skills you develop in therapy.
Nicolas’s counselling practice includes working with
individuals who face a variety of issues including:
-Anxiety
and Stress
-Depression
-Identity
Issues
-Managing
Chronic Pain
-Eating
Disorders
-Weight Loss
-Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder (ADHD)
Nicolas has an extensive background in sport psychology and counselling with over
fifteen years of athletic coaching and mentoring experience and was a five-time
member of the Canadian National Fencing Team. With a background in Exercise and
Wellness combined with training in Exercise Rehabilitation, he offers unique insight
into eating disorders, weight control challenges, chronic pain management, and sport psychology needs.
