Anger is a universal emotion. We first experienced anger as a very young child. Often our anger told us that we were feeling like a boundary had been crossed. This might show up in being hit by our parents, or being blamed for something we didn't do, or even being made fun of by another, causing us to feel less than those around us. There is nothing wrong with feeling the emotion of Anger. What we need to be aware of is how we show our anger to others. Some find their anger feelings literally hijack them into behaviors that may range from inappropriate to dangerous. Education and therapy can help you develop mastery and awareness over your past default mechanisms that no longer work.

"Emotional management" titles this topic area more efficiently as those of us experiencing difficutly expressing one emotion, such as anger, are quite likely struggling to express numerous other emotions very well. There are many strategies including cognitve-behavioural, narrative, stress and coping skills training, assessment of strengths, values and beliefs as well as communication training/coaching that includes assertiveness education, negotiation and conflict resolution work and advanced empathy awareness. We are constantly changing. With good support and leadership we can learn to express emotions clearly, effectively and in a calm, kind & loving manner. Breathe, Breathe & Breathe !
