At Nexus Psychology, we understand that faith is an important part of people's lives, and it can be difficult to find someone that is able to offer a faith-based perspective. We have a psychologist with extensive counselling training and experience. He is from a Christian background and is able to combine his counselling skills with a faith-based perspective when requested.

Some of our psychologists grew up Catholic and in a Catholic school system. They are spiritual and often times incorporate and embrace their spirituality into aspects of therapy that they employ, whether that be in the form of general spirituality or religion. Our psychologists are quite familiar with the beliefs of the Catholic Church and the different rituals, and use spirituality to empower people and help them find meaning in circumstances, if appropriate for the client.

Through Christian Counselling, you will have the opportunity to express your feelings, your struggles, and your concerns in a non-judgmental atmosphere. Through our counselling services, we strive to restore wellness, healing and wholeness to individuals, marriages and families. We will work together to understand and pursue solutions that reflect your values and your relationship to Jesus Christ.

While I have my own Christian faith, it is important for any client that seeks faith-based counselling to feel as though it is their worldview, their belief system that is given credence in the room. The goal of the therapist must be to come to understand the client's experience as it pertains to the definition of their faith, and to facilitate an environment that allows change that "fits" this faith. For a client, knowing that in principle, the fundamental points of their belief system are shared by their therapist is reassuring and permits comfort and safety.

Our faith can lead us to deep spiritual insight or it can be used to hide from our freedom and responsibility as human beings. The scriptures provide profound psychological and spiritual teachings. Our beliefs and values must become personal and relevant to our daily life. Doubt and disbelief are often part of this process. Faith must be an individual, living experience and does not consist of rules or dogma.

Sometimes we all get stuck in patterns of thinking and behaving that are negative and take us off course. Often we have had life experiences that have created insecurities and self doubt, and sometimes we are not sure why we are so hard on ourselves. Throughout both my training and practice I have been keenly aware that an integrating faith into psychology and counselling is extremely important. I trained through seminaries and have worked in churches and have had the opportunity to explore this faith in action. Understanding how God and our belief interact with our current distress can be both helpful and healing as we continue on our faith journey.
