I work with couples who are looking to explore their relationships, including what is working and what is not working as well. Couples are tasked with learning to communicate more effectively, advocate for their needs more directly, and navigate their challenges more empathetically and successfully. I offer counselling to couples who have experienced a loss and/or are facing transition. The loss of a child, family member, or friend can create unexpected stress on a relationship. Moving to a new city or country can mean the loss of a couple's supportive network. Job loss or retirement changes the dynamics of a couple which creates unique challenges. Transitioning to children moving away is another stage in a relationship which can introduce unexpected stress. I help couples mourn their losses and navigate transitions to create new meaning in their lives and in their relationship.

I offered structured and effective methods for working with couples whether the goal is to improve the relationship or successfully separation. I use assessment tools that highlight what is working and not working in troubled relationships where couples want to stay together. Strategies to target problem areas are chosen and practiced in sessions and at home. By improving communication skills, conflict resolution skills and deepening couple intimacy, couples are able to feel more successful in their relationships. When there is closeness and comfort in our most important relationships it can positively impact our overall wellbeing.

Over the last 12 years I have been working with couples and my passion continues to grow in this area. There are so many stressors that are placed on relationships. Oftentimes this leads to the development of unhealthy patterns in your relationship leaving your feeling stuck and disconnected with your partner. I am trained in Emotions Focused Couples Therapy which is an evidence based treatment model. This approach helps you to see the cycle between you and your partner that is preventing you both from having a secure connection. In addition, I am trained in Gottman institute Methods and trained through the Couples Institute. This allows me to bring a breath of knowledge to the therapy room.
