We live in a world where anxiety and stress run rampant and relaxation and exposure to sounds and visuals that restore and calm us are few. Often our stress comes from our external circumstances, and also from the internal themes we carry within us. Working from both the outside and the inside can help reduce the amount of anxiety and stress we naturally think we must sustain because we have for so long.

The approach that I have found most helpful in working with people with anxiety and stress issues is helping them FIRST learn to slow down and relax. I have been trained and have worked for many years with victims of trauma who experience enormous amounts of stress. First, teaching coping skills and then exploring the underlying cause for the anxiety and/or stress. People with anxiety often report various symptoms ranging from having difficulty concentrating, being afraid to do things they used to do, having headaches, sweating a lot, having hypertension, fatigue, heart palpitations, and sexual dysfunction. As an EMDR-certified therapist, I use mind-body approaches to help clients release anxiety and tension and feel safe, stable, and at ease. I incorporate mindfulness-based approaches that help clients calmly cope with uncomfortable feelings and challenging life events. EMDR is a powerful healing tool for new moms struggling with postpartum anxiety in the midst of all the change, stress, and overwhelm of pregnancy, birth, and parenting a newborn.
