Career Counseling is about change. Whether you are changing a career position, seeking a new field, or a student changing a major, the core of career counseling is preparation and the understanding of your goals and how they affect your life as a whole. In my practice, I do not use assessments or aptitude tests, as I believe the client is the best source of information. Together we will review your education, interests, work history and the reasons to make a change at this time in your life. Additionally, we will evaluate your level of risk taking, relationships and approaches to pursue a new career path. My style is comprehensive and tailored to you to help your reach your career goals.

A large component of career choice is how we view ourselves and what we feel we can accomplish. So there's a big element of identity in there. I use Positive Psychology tools to assess the individual's strengths of character and what they view as important tools for success that they already have in their arsenal. From that perspective, we also look at those character strengths that could use a little further strengthening in order to best serve the individual reach their goals. Dreaming and imagining are big pieces of this process, so we also explore those in depth. I encourage realistic dreaming and identify fears and doubts that getting the way of dreaming and accomplishing dreams.

A career takes up so much of someone's life. To be in a career that feels like a poor fit is to suffer for much of life. I aim to help patients talk honestly, to find the source of their suffering and glimmers of joy. By talking honestly and exploring your real self, we can find the right path to a fulfilling life and a career that feels like the rightful place for you.

We spend the majority of our time at the workplace and so when we love our job, we have a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment. When we either don't have one or don’t love the one we have, we struggle greatly. My approach to career counseling is simple. Let's figure out what factors are important to you in life. Is it structure? Is it flexibility? Do you prefer working with a team or by yourself? Do you like to be creative? Do you like working with people? Once we figure out who you are and what you need to feel fulfilled, we can then find a career that caters to those desires.

Oftentimes, people seek out career counseling because they are finding that their current job is not making them happy. From a Christian perspective, finding the work or "mission" God has designed you for is often called "finding your purpose" which we believe is the key to happiness in your work. In my work with Christians I strive to help people to find this purpose in their lives.

I have a specific degree (Masters Degree MA) in career and academic counseling. I have worked with undergraduate and graduate students on many college campuses over the years teaching and counseling in the area of career and work related topics. I have assisted in Womens Reentry, job placement, resume writing, interview techniques, and have taught and assisted clients to discover their true potential. I also have a degree and am a licensed Marriage and Family Pschotherapist--often career issues affect our relationships, self esteem, and other personal areas as well.
