One of my specialties is working with elementary age (and adolescents). A child or young person's struggles with difficult feelings and unhelpful behaviors can impact the rest of his or her life. Addressing these challenges during the child's critical developmental years can rebalance and set the stage for a happier and healthier future. I have a special feeling for young people in distress, and feel my professional and life experience has enabled me to be especially attuned to their feelings, needs, and pain. I set clear expectations, & create a supportive, fun-loving atmosphere. I focus on strengths: I identify & address problems and then focus on what’s right & how to do more of it. Abby specializes in therapy for young children (ages 0–5), providing developmentally informed, gentle support tailored to their unique emotional and behavioral needs. Using play therapy and trauma-informed techniques, she helps children express feelings, build coping skills, and foster healthy attachment. Abby also works closely with parents and caregivers to strengthen relationships and create nurturing environments that promote early emotional growth and resilience.

Today it is more complicated than ever to be a teen. With so much going on, it’s common for teens and children feel anxiety, irritability, isolation, low self esteem, and sadness. Teens just need someone to talk to, that isn’t a family member about difficult topics they are experiencing. It’s not that they don’t trust their family, but many times teens need a private, non-judge mental space of their own to gain insight. I have extensive experience working with teens and children, even those resistant to therapy. I specialize with teens managing high academic & athletic achievement. Through therapy teens will learn to manage their emotions, reach goals, and grow into healthy young adults.

Many therapists share they use play therapy in their practice with children, but have not taken further training on its use in therapy. I am a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, which means I completed 3 years and 3000 additional hours of practice after licensure, clinical supervision, consistent continued education courses, and significant focus in at least two play therapy evidence based practices. I utilize Child Centered Play Therapy, Filial Therapy, Digital Play Therapy, and Prescriptive Play Therapy to address children's needs in addition to creative arts therapies (Drama Therapy, Art Therapy interventions).

Adolescents age 12-18. For over 20 years, I have worked with adolescents/teens. Navigating adolescence can be extremely challenging. Some areas of treatment are ( but not limited to) exploration of developmental issues, self-esteem, managing academic stress, understanding relationships with family and friends, developing a healthy sense of self and communication skills in a social media age.

No group of people is as subject to the power of others as young children. Often acutely aware of their situation, I position myself as an ally as they decide how they want to act in the face of this power. I view childrens' voices and creativity as major assets that, if given their due, will serve them well as the move through their teen years and into young adulthood.

Children respond positively to therapies which include forms of creative expression such as art or music therapies. These approaches facilitate a child's processing of thought, feelings and emotions. This concentration is personalized, individually. How a child feels will effect the way that child acts and behaves at home and in school. Children often are living with a parent who struggled from the conflicts of a separation or divorce. A child can take-on the parent symptoms in order to identify with that parent. Sometimes, initially, conjoint sessions are encouraged, which can help secure emotionally, the child in the family's transition processes.

The teen years can be challenging, and it is not uncommon for teens to experience emotional imbalance and upheavals during adolescence.
