I use non-directive, directive and sand play therapy when working with children. Given that younger children's brains are in a process of development and many of the more complex cognitive skills don't develop until later, play is the most effect method of learning to solve problems and process emotions or issues. As a school counselor I worked with families, teachers and children. I have trained as a synergistic play therapist, a person centered play therapist and in sand play.

Young children do not have the verbal skills to explain what is bothering them and may become angry or depressed. I communicate with children at the appropriate age level using books, games, and drawing. As we play together, your child will feel safe and find a way to express feelings not easily expressed because of lack of words. I will help your child develop new coping and verbal skills that will allow expression of feelings.
