Anger is a tough emotion. It feels so real and raw in the moment, that we forget that it’s simply a defense mechanism. As human beings, we like to feel powerful. Vulnerable emotions are dangerous. Sadness, fear, jealousy, hurt, and betrayal make us feel weak, so what do we do? We try to look strong, scary, and powerful. Anger is the most efficient way to do this. If we can sit with our more vulnerable feelings and care for them, we are able to see our anger evaporate. We’ll work together to create a safe space for you to explore what’s hiding beneath your anger. The freedom that comes with vulnerability is where your true power lies.

I don’t believe in Anger Management. Instead, I believe in getting rid of anger (Anger Resolution). Most of us learn how and when to be angry as children and continue to react the same way as adults. I work with you to eliminate anger by lowering reactivity and by helping you to explore new, more personally beneficial ways to respond to potentially rageful situations. No matter how angry you are, if you are coming to see me because you (or a loved one) feel that you need help with anger, I can help you. I am certified in Anger Resolution and I use many different techniques to lower your reactivity and help you eliminate rage--and not one of them includes counting to 10!

Grey Matters International and the work of Kevin J. Fleming, Ph.D approaches issues of anger management in a very humane yet fresh perspective. You see, anger is a normal emotion but it is the valence (intensity) as well as the coupling choice of what one does with this that is the problem. Telling someone to "not" do it or modifying behavior with a trite psychological plan that only breeds a compliant response is not the way to change anger. Brainwave optimization is a new cutting edge technology that allows one to rewire circuitry responsible for reactivity driving the anger. I have extensive experience working with anger management. While working in rehab, I provided two groups per week regarding anger management. Anger can be a difficult emotion that can lead to inappropriate verbal and physical outbursts. It can be difficult for parents to deal with when their children are destroying objects or hurting one another, or themselves. Children also tend to copy how parents express anger. I have worked with many parents who are worried about their children becoming verbally aggressive, only to find that they themselves have difficulty expressing anger appropriately. Treatment for anger involves recognizing physical symptoms, thinking, and patterns of behavior.

Anger is an emotion. And anger is usually the result of emotions building up inside. One of the traits that I bring to therapy related to anger management is being able to process how anger comes into any situation my clients are dealing with. In taking the time to identify how anger manages to invade my client's life we can work towards ways of preventing it from stopping the ability to live a fulfilling - and complete - life.

Anger is a healthy and normal human emotion. We were never taught how to experience these feelings, to understand what it means, and how to express anger productively. Often, we use anger to protect us against perceived threats, fears, feelings of shame and self-doubt, and even sadness. Anger management is a highly effective form of therapy that results in great benefits - to yourself and to people you care about. You will learn what your anger means, why it can explode into rage, and how to channel your anger into productive communication and other positive results in your life. I teach simple tools to help people de-escalate, and to create new, positive outcomes.
