Depression is very mentally challenging. It can make you feel as if the world is coming to an end. Depression effects most areas of life such as self esteem, relationships with your partner, family, job, coworkers and friends. It influences our motivation, keeping us from doing things that we once previously enjoyed doing. To combat depression, I use a model of treatment called CBT or Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy that is very effective in treating depression. Another treatment method used is behavioral activation, which is just as effective, if not even more effective than medication. All treatment plans are person centered based on the individuals needs.

A human being's mind is so powerful that it can either enhance him/her or bring him/her down. The mind itself is inherently powerful: whether that power is used negatively or positively, accidentally or purposefully, depends to some extent on a person's knowledge and experience. My approach with a client who feels depressed is to listen closely and discover how they think, feel, and act. Working with the client on these three factors, and how they interact, can help them reclaim their own well-being and realize they are actually the author of their mind's power.

“The Impossible Task”…if you’ve ever struggled with depression you get it. Something that ought to be so easy; sending that email, taking a shower, making the kids lunch, or walking the dog feels as if it’s insurmountable. Well-meaning friends and family aren’t very helpful when they suggest things like, “Just get dressed and exercise. It’ll make you feel better.” I get it. Calling a therapist might be the hardest thing you ever do. If you can take this one step, we’ll walk the rest of the way together.
