Psychotherapy literally means "healing of the mind or spirit." As a licensed psychotherapist, my job and purpose is to facilitate this, according to the client's presenting needs and stated concerns. By being interested in the client and providing a distinct context for communicating within a safe friendly environment, the client can more ably express and address what is on his or her mind or troubling him or her. This venting and processing of difficulties and challenges, and picking up of key psych tools and concepts, can help one manage and overcome things that previously seemed daunting and perplexing.

James Hillman once said, "We've had a hundred years of psychotherapy and the world is getting worse." While there are many occasions where the validation and listening endemic to psychotherapy makes sense, there are times where we over assume that "feeling better" and "changing behavior" are the same. Grey Matters International, Inc. goes after the forgotten brain laws to behavior change that therapists miss when processing hours and hours of dialogues with people. Utilizing a cutting edge technology to facilitate the emotional process of change, we can make the therapy process way more effective, faster, and with less money spent. Life brings an overwhelming amount of stresses & circumstances & a variety of relationship challenges. Circumstances out of one’s control with painful feelings of anxiety, disappointment, & anger...hurtful & harmful past abuses & betrayals can make life seem confusing & unbearable. Whether single, married, facing divorce or blending a family, encountering a betrayal from a spouse or significant other, facing circumstances out of one’s control, life hurts. Adjustment to life’s issues, & the choices one makes or made in response, can bring feelings of guilt, shame, & isolation. My clients gain strength, understanding & skills, through therapy to move out of chaos to confident stable lives.

My approach to psychotherapy is exploring thoroughlly all areas of a person's life. Many times who we are today is because of what we were or were not exposed to in our childhood. The relationships in our past often follow us. If a person does not figure out why they are making the same bad choices repeatedly (whether social, occupation, marital, etc..), the person may continue to self sabotage, set themselves up for failure and other destructive patterns. Psychotherapy takes time and can be painful depending on the dynamics of the past. A client must be willing to take that journey with me. However, the insight a person can gain and the new ways of relating to others can be life changing.

Some budgeting needed
While counseling can certainly be an expense for individuals and families in St. Petersburg, with proper budgeting, it is entirely do-able and the risk/reward is worth it. For some families, it may be difficult to sustain a commitment to therapy without proper insurance coverage.
