The Autism Society of Macomb/St. Clair seeks to support individuals impacted by autism as well as their families. A primary function of the organization is to raise awareness about the disorder to reduce stigma that often surrounds it. The Supported Employment Initiative is a program implemented by Detroit Central City Community Mental Health. The purpose of the initiative is to identify employment opportunities for individuals who have a severe and persistent mental illness. Those who are capable of work can receive assistance with interview skills, resume writing, and other job-related needs. The initiative also works to raise awareness about mental illness among local employers so they understand how to effectively work with someone who is mentally ill.
