Over the years I have had a number of clients who suffer from anorexia or bulimia. Generally these are young women who are convinced that their misguided eating habits and distorted view of their body are necessary and "normal." Using a gentle but honest approach, I try to help them see the many ways they are hampering their health and their relationships through maintaining their disorder. In time, if they stick with my program, they work through the internal conflicts that underlie the eating disorder and begin to thrive in their personal and professional lives.

Adolescent Eating Disorders Program - Our Adolescent Eating Disorders Program takes a family-based approach that integrates loved ones into the healing process. Our unique approach addresses the physical, psychological and spiritual needs of the individual while aligning the family as powerful agents of support and healing. A typical treatment schedule includes individual therapy, group therapy and nutritional counseling for the individual, as well as nutritional education for the family and family therapy. Eating disorder Counseling will take take place using several therapies including Internal Family systems approach, trauma therapy, CBT and DBT, as well as Mindfulness solution focused therapy. Building on self-love and self-worth will be a significant component of therapy. Individuals will see an increase in confidence and self esteem, along with learning new healthy habits.

Compulsive overeating is triggered by poor eating habits, emotional and psychological stresses (anxiety and depression) and making poor food choices. In order to lose weight permanently you must change your thinking about yourself and your relationship to food. Food can serve many functions: companion, distractor, means to avoid emotions and activity. In the 20 week "Mind Set Program" you will learn how: your emotions and thoughts set you into motion to overeat, to eat in a healthy manner promoting weight loss and a healthy attitudes towards food, and create your "personal healthy environment" where you incorporate exercise and nutritious foods into your daily life.

We work on the the underlying issues of an eating disorder and refer these clients to a nutritionist. We help these clients identify their triggers and substitute the eating disorder behaviors with more healthy adaptive behaviors. We help these clients develop coping skills to manage and communicate their emotions in healthier ways. We help these clients understand where there eating disordered behaviors stem from and what may be getting in the way of positive change.
