We have years of experience with addictions and mental health issues. Some of our therapists are recovering addicts and truly get it on a personal level. We also support clients in other areas of addiction such as food addiction, shopping, gaming, gambling and sexual behaviours. It takes great courage to be honest and face our addictions. We believe we are capable to help our clients through the therapy process and can support their needs.

Counselling for addiction at Neurodiversity Aware Therapy explores how substance use or other coping strategies can become linked with motivation, anxiety, or low mood, particularly for neurodivergent people. Our approach focuses on understanding patterns of thinking and behaviour, the purposes substances may serve, and their impact on daily life. Therapy supports clients in increasing insight, strengthening motivation, and developing practical strategies that reduce harm and support goals aligned with their values.

Having an addiction is not a sign of weakness or lack of character. In fact, reaching out for help and being open to change takes a great deal of strength. My approach is one of openness and non-judgment. I follow a harm reduction approach meaning that I respect my clients right to set their own goals which will then guide our sessions. I appreciate that not everyone is ready to, nor wants to, work towards full sobriety. Harm reduction is about reducing the negative impact that substance use has on that person’s well-being and life.
