Many addiction treatment plans try to get you to avoid places and things that trigger addiction. In contrast, my approach is to go to the root causes of addiction, so that you can disarm your triggers completely. Addiction is often driven by pain and self-defeating beliefs. Over the years, we've learned to run away from our pain by engaging in behaviours that temporarily change how we feel, but leave us feeling shamed and defeated.
