Anger is an emotion like any other and as such we should not seek to run away from it. It is the expression of the emotion rather than the emotion itself that causes problems in peoples lives. Exploring the feelings that are often masked by anger can help individuals to develop a fresh perspective on the emotion itself and effectively learn to resolve situations before they develop into damaging behaviours.

I use a combination of Narrative, Solutions Focused, and Emotion Focused therapy to help clients address the underlying pain informing feelings of anger. Clients can experience anger getting the way of important relationships or preferred outcomes. Sometimes anger has been an adaptive and helpful response for clients in the past, and one that they want to choose to live with and respond to a little differently now. I aim to help you understand the causes and subsequent triggers in order to better respond when these feelings arise. Book a consult to see if we would be the right fit.

It can be difficult to control our emotions, especially in these challenging times. Anger can also be an expression of other emotions that are lying beneath the surface. Psychotherapy can help identify tools that work for you in learning to regulate your emotions, as well as approaching your anger with preventative strategies such as learning to recognize when you begin to feel angry, and regular activities that can help alleviate stress and build up your stress tolerance. You are not defined by your anger, and your anger doesn't control you. By learning to identify your triggers and the purpose your anger serves for you, therapy can help you make a shift bring more peace into your life.

No one WANTS to be angry. Anger is a secondary emotion - meaning, it's a symptom of another emotion that you are dealing with through anger. Often when we feel an emotion that is too overwhelming for us to manage, we react with anger, which lets us avoid that original emotion. Managing your anger will mean that we explore what that original emotion is, help you to identify what caused it, and how you can tolerate it without utilizing anger. Sessions will also allow you to express your feelings in a safe, supportive environment, without judgment, perhaps for the first time.

Anger can destroy lives, families and relationships. I, as a professional, work on the idea of “he who angers you controls you”. Through a proven user friendly anger management process which incorporates many internal reflections, the client can begin to build more control over his/her emotions as a result more capable of handling difficult situations. Over time, through using these new skills, the client develops more confidence and assurance that he/she can deal with life’s challenges in a more calm and reasonable manner. Anger presents in various forms and can range in intensity within and between individuals. When working with clients who see anger as a barrier in their lives, I strive to work together to gain an understanding of where the anger comes from, determine its different features and triggers, and explore the possible ways that you can feel more in control over this experience. Anger, frustration, rage, and reactivity overall, can make a person feel frustrated and powerless; when we have emotional outbursts of any kind they can feel so all-encompassing and make us feel like we are not in control of feelings, thoughts, and behaviours. In working with clients on their emotions I aim to primarily promote an understanding of why our emotional outbursts occur; once this has been established we begin to work on how to manage, mitigate, or change how these outbursts occur, or why we feel the way that we feel in the first place.

Anger is a common and useful emotional reaction. However, there are times when anger is excessive or extreme and controls a person to the point that it is hurtful to them, their life, and their loved ones. I work with clients to understand their experience of anger, learn to identify potential triggers and underlying issues, and develop coping skills to manage these issues and emotions. Clients will learn relaxation or calming strategies, how to communicate to reduce angry outbursts, problem solving skills, and how to alter negative thinking which may be contributing to the anger. This often results in clients feeling happier, more relaxed, and having improved relationships.
