My approach to anger management first teaches clients to become expert observers of themselves their triggers, risks and "buttons". Once this is done, strategies are developed to mitigate risk and experiment with alternate, healthy forms of expressing rage. Anger can be profoundly healing and revealing, as well as destructive. Sometimes deeper reprocessing work is necessary if the source of anger is extreme or rooted in early life, or marked by great suffering, humiliation, disgust or injustice. If impulse control is a concern, practical safety agreements in addition to DBT and affect regulation strategies can be imparted. Couples can learn ways to allow safe and healthy anger expression

Anger can feel overwhelming, unpredictable, or difficult to control. It often masks deeper emotions like hurt, fear, or powerlessness. If anger is straining your relationships or impacting your wellbeing, we can work together to explore its root causes, understand what it’s trying to communicate, and develop healthier, more constructive ways to manage and express intense emotions.

My approach to Anger Management counseling is rooted in helping clients process anger in a conscious way. I guide clients to recognize the difference between healthy anger and destructive, explosive rage, providing clarity and insight into their emotional responses. We explore the roots of suppressed anger, often tied to childhood fears or unmet needs for love, creating understanding rather than judgment. Clients are supported in expressing anger responsibly, raising self-awareness and accountability, while connecting with their authentic selves. This empowers clients to respond to life with honesty and integrity.

Anger management counselling at Neurodiversity Aware Therapy focuses on understanding how anger develops through patterns of thought, expectation, unmet needs, and experiences of oppression. For many neurodivergent people, anger may emerge from frustration, misunderstanding, or repeated invalidation rather than intentional aggression. Using a structured, collaborative approach, therapy supports clients in identifying triggers, examining assumptions, and developing practical strategies to respond more intentionally, self-advocate, reduce conflict, and improve relationships.

There are 3 phases in working with Anger 1.Prevention- Attempts to forestall the very onset of anger. 2. Intervention- Aims to reduce the intensity or the duration of anger that has already ignited. 3. Postvention- Aims to discharge any residual anger. Emotions are regulated by re-experiencing, releasing, or converting them into a safe form. We will not only focus on your cognitions and behaviors as entry points but also focus on the modification of affect (your emotions). Anger is an emotion. To have no room in therapy for the feeling component of this emotion is to deny its very essence, your existence. Gestalt perspective- Expression of anger can be very productive. Let out!
