When I work with young children, I work hard to create a trusting relationship by developing a personal connect with the child and establishing a structured session to provide the child with a sense of what is going on. I focus on being very empathetic and understanding of the child's experience. I also use creative techniques to help children process their emotions.

My approach when working with children under 12 years old is to ensure that they are provided with a positive and safe experience of therapy. I prefer to tailor therapy to their developmental stage by creating a fun environment that may involve play, art, and activities during sessions. Discussions about their interests, skills, and special talents and abilities are at the forefront of our therapeutic conversations to help build confidence and feelings of positivity. My background in relational therapy may invite parents or siblings into sessions as well. Children can be impacted by transitions and traumas in their lives. When they don’t know how to cope, the stress can build up. I provide safe and compassionate counselling where the child can talk about their feelings without the fear of being judged, better understand why they feel this way and learn strategies to move forward. When working with young children, I use developmentally appropriate, play-based, and relational approaches to support emotional expression and regulation. Children are given safe ways to communicate feelings that may be difficult to verbalize directly. Therapy may also include caregiver involvement to strengthen attachment and support consistency outside of sessions. Children often benefit from improved emotional awareness, better coping skills, and increased behavioural regulation, while caregivers gain insight into supporting their child’s emotional development.

Adolescents face unique challenges as they grow and develop. I provide a supportive space to address issues such as behavioural problems, anxiety, and social struggles.
