Christian counselling takes into consideration the mental, physical and spiritual needs of a client to help them on a path to wholeness and purpose. Christian counselling begins from a place of unconditional acceptance for clients and takes counselling beyond the realm of simply seeing, feeling and knowing. Through spirit led counselling, the root of problems is revealed, eliminating the inner blocks that can keep us from experiencing fulfillment in relationships and life. I believe that true transformation comes from renewal of the mind (Rom 12:2) and that through God’s power we can become, achieve, and experience more joy and peace than we ever thought possible!

I provide psychotherapy, counselling, and mental health services that are grounded in my academic and experiential training. However, the foundation of my work is grounded in my faith. I firmly believe in a grand power/God that helps human beings to work for the healthy betterment of theirselves and of others. The main source of energy that drives us towards this betterment is love, compassion, and understanding. In faith based counselling and psychotherapy, I will help you to explore your own faith and spirituality and use these in supporting the resolution of resentful feelings, trauma, and other harmful experiences.

I believe that God is the ultimate healer. He does not want us to live in bondage, but rather wants people to live life fully and abundantly. I love people and consider it a privilege to walk along side them through their struggles and empower them to become all that God created them to be. My goal is to help people overcome issues and develop strategies to reach their maximum potential through Spirit-led counselling. I provide a caring, accepting and nurturing environment in which I help people develop tools to overcome the situations they are facing now, and give them the ability to apply these tools to other situations that arise in the future.

We all know that life is not always easy. Sometimes it can help to talk to someone who understands, and who can help you find a way through life’s challenges. Years ago, I found that the stresses of work and home life, combined with a stubborn refusal to admit I needed help, led me to a place of burnout. A counsellor came alongside me, helping me work though issues and find the strength and resilience I needed to get back into life. It was this experience that led me to become a psychotherapist, and I have been blessed over the years to walk alongside others as they learn to live happier, more fulfilled lives.

My approach to counselling is attachment based and trauma informed. I have extensive training in emotionally focused therapy, the gold standard in couple's therapy, which I apply in my work with couples, families, and individuals. Emotionally focused therapy closely parallels the Christian faith in how it understands human personhood and connection. I am trained through a biblical lens and comfortable including faith in the work we will do. During our sessions I take an engaged and active role in the process, focused on helping you to identify the areas where you may be stuck and working with you to make changes aligned with your goals and faith.

Due to various challenges that I experienced as a child I often felt I had the weight of the world on my shoulder. Therefore as a teenager and most of my childhood I suffered with depression. My experiences however also revealed my life’s purpose and incited the desire to support others ex-periencing their own challenges. It was only through the support of key people in my life and the grace of God that changed my outlook on life. Your relationship with your therapist is KEY to your success and therefore it would be my privilege to support you on your journey.

To me, the greatest part of being a Christian is being Christ-like, meaning, looking at each and every individual as a worthwhile human being, created for a purpose. When people stop believing in themselves, I like to help them get back on track and feel good about themselves. I’ve successfully worked with disadvantaged kids, the elderly, troubled teens, ashamed individuals, and couples feeling hopeless. I see my clients through the Lord’s eyes, as precious and valuable, and I do my best to help them look at themselves that way. I strongly believe in divine forgiveness and lack of judgment, which allows people in the darkest places to forgive themselves and have hope for a better future.

My Biblical counselling is based on Scripture and supported by my training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. By applying Scriptural wisdom we will work together to "take every thought captive for Christ”. Our counselling will help you find confidence in your choices and also help you focus on the truths of Scripture as they apply to your current issues and challenges.

I hold a Masters of Divinity in Clinical Counselling from Tyndale University. I also spent over 20 years involved in various Christian Leadership roles. I do not practice or hold to this religion any longer. In my clinical work, I work with clients who are processing spiritual abuse/trauma and I regularly work with clients who are navigating deconstruction. I believe it is important to clarify, I am affirming and fully accepting of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. I consider myself an ally to this community. In my clinical work, I consider it an honour to work with members of this community who have been wounded by the Christian Church.

It is a particular passion of mine to work with clients who would like to bring their faith and their spirituality into counselling. I believe that integrating solid, evidence-based counselling with the healing power of God through the use of Prayer, Scripture and simply the explicit welcoming of God into our conversation, brings the potential of great healing and hope for individuals. For many of us faith is not just important it is critical. As a professional therapist, I work with all kinds of faiths, with respect and honor. However I do identify and enjoy working within the context of Christianity. Over the last twenty-five years I have worked closely with believers, congregations, denominations and their leaders through individual, marriage and family issues but also issues of faith. Some times we struggle with our faith and it becomes more of a stumbling block. Other times it becomes our anchor. Having Christ as the center of history and ones life allows for resources that significantly bolster therapy.
