At Whiteboard, we understand that a client's faith can be the most dominant factor in their mental healthy journey. Understanding the deeper aspects of a client's theology, worldview and beliefs is something we pride ourselves on, and we have therapists who specialize in bringing a Christian viewpoint to every session. This not only helps to build rapport with clients from a Christian background, it also helps inform the therapy and techniques which are used as well.

Due to various challenges that I experienced as a child I often felt I had the weight of the world on my shoulder. Therefore as a teenager and most of my childhood I suffered with depression. My experiences however also revealed my life’s purpose and incited the desire to support others ex-periencing their own challenges. It was only through the support of key people in my life and the grace of God that changed my outlook on life. Your relationship with your therapist is KEY to your success and therefore it would be my privilege to support you on your journey.

For many Christians, it can be a challenge to find a counsellor who shares their belief system. They often find it more comforting and safe to share their struggles with a professional who can understand where they are coming from spiritually. At Meristem, our services are rooted in evidence-based therapeutic approaches presented through a Christian lens for those who so desire. It is important to note that we welcome individuals of all faiths or individuals that do not associate themselves with a faith. We believe in a client-centered approach, meaning that your perspective will be respected and that you will lead in the process of including (or not including) aspects of your faith.

I hold a Masters of Divinity in Clinical Counselling from Tyndale University. I also spent over 20 years involved in various Christian Leadership roles. I do not practice or hold to this religion any longer. In my clinical work, I work with clients who are processing spiritual abuse/trauma and I regularly work with clients who are navigating deconstruction. I believe it is important to clarify, I am affirming and fully accepting of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. I consider myself an ally to this community. In my clinical work, I consider it an honour to work with members of this community who have been wounded by the Christian Church.

Spirituality is a vast topic that may or may not overlap with religion. Having had training and experience with spirituality, I am happy to meet you wherever you are in your spiritual journey. Years ago, I found that the stresses of work and home life, combined with a stubborn refusal to admit I needed help, led me to a place of burnout. A counsellor came alongside me, helping me work though issues and find the strength and resilience I needed to get back into life. It was this experience that led me to become a psychotherapist, and I have been blessed over the years to walk alongside others as they learn to live happier, more fulfilled lives.

I love God. It’s not always easy, but it’s a choice that has made a difference in my life. As a Christian therapist, I feel it always important to work with my client’s faith and value system. Since I am counseling as a person with Christian beliefs, it is not my plan to impose my values on my clients, but to help them in their journey. Since I am a Christian, my frame of reference would be led by the spirit of God. It is my hope to guide individuals towards a stronger relationship with God and with others. It is in this relationship that I believe people will reach their goals and achieve the significance that God has always meant for us to enjoy.

As a Christian, my faith shapes the compassion, hope, and grace I bring into each session. I believe every person is created in God’s image and has the capacity to heal, grow, and experience meaningful change. For those seeking Christian counselling, faith can be thoughtfully woven into the therapy process through prayer, scripture, spiritual reflection, or exploring how your faith story connects to your challenges and strengths—always at your comfort level and with your pace. I deeply respect each person’s worldview and ensure their values, culture, and identity are honored.

To me, the greatest part of being a Christian is being Christ-like, meaning, looking at each and every individual as a worthwhile human being, created for a purpose. When people stop believing in themselves, I like to help them get back on track and feel good about themselves. I’ve successfully worked with disadvantaged kids, the elderly, troubled teens, ashamed individuals, and couples feeling hopeless. I see my clients through the Lord’s eyes, as precious and valuable, and I do my best to help them look at themselves that way. I strongly believe in divine forgiveness and lack of judgment, which allows people in the darkest places to forgive themselves and have hope for a better future.

For many of us faith is not just important it is critical. As a professional therapist, I work with all kinds of faiths, with respect and honor. However I do identify and enjoy working within the context of Christianity. Over the last twenty-five years I have worked closely with believers, congregations, denominations and their leaders through individual, marriage and family issues but also issues of faith. Some times we struggle with our faith and it becomes more of a stumbling block. Other times it becomes our anchor. Having Christ as the center of history and ones life allows for resources that significantly bolster therapy.

Within a Biblical framework, counselling becomes an even richer process. A Biblical base simply means that the therapist believes that all human beings were created in the image of God, intended for relationship and designed with the capacity for growth and change. Forgiveness, personal empowerment, learning to love self and other are critical parts of the process. Jesus said "I came to heal the broken hearted" and at some point, most of us would love to sink into that compassionate offer. Biblical based counselling does not infer any judgement or inflexibility within the therapeutic process.
