As a Christian therapist, I feel it always important to work with my client’s faith and value system. Since I am counseling as a person with Christian beliefs, it is not my plan to impose my values on my clients, but to help them in their journey. Since I am a Christian, my frame of reference would be led by the spirit of God. It is my hope to guide individuals towards a stronger relationship with God and with others. It is in this relationship that I believe people will reach their goals and achieve the significance that God has always meant for us to enjoy.

Christian counselling focuses on a few main principles. It focuses on the care of the whole person, body, soul and spirit, as it is also sometimes named "soul-care", and maintains the values taught in the Bible. The aim of Christian counselling is to help people regain a sense of hope for their life that is found in Jesus Christ. Christian counselling believes that at the core of what they do is to help others achieve a better understanding of themselves and God which is rooted in the Holy Spirit's conviction. Christian counsellors seek to make people aware of the sin in their lives that has caused them suffering but also come to know the immense worth and value they have as a person to God

As a Christian, I greatly appreciate how faith and spirituality play a role in our daily lives. Yet God still calls us to be in the world and to experience many different aspects of human life, even things we think God could fix. Making sense of the differences between what we believe God wants and what we face daily can be distressing and lead to despair and depression. Talking about these losses with someone with a similar faith can be vital as we navigate these challenges. To me, the greatest part of being a Christian is being Christ-like, meaning, looking at each and every individual as a worthwhile human being, created for a purpose. When people stop believing in themselves, I like to help them get back on track and feel good about themselves. I’ve successfully worked with disadvantaged kids, the elderly, troubled teens, ashamed individuals, and couples feeling hopeless. I see my clients through the Lord’s eyes, as precious and valuable, and I do my best to help them look at themselves that way. I strongly believe in divine forgiveness and lack of judgment, which allows people in the darkest places to forgive themselves and have hope for a better future.

Within a Biblical framework, counselling becomes an even richer process. A Biblical base simply means that the therapist believes that all human beings were created in the image of God, intended for relationship and designed with the capacity for growth and change. Forgiveness, personal empowerment, learning to love self and other are critical parts of the process. Jesus said "I came to heal the broken hearted" and at some point, most of us would love to sink into that compassionate offer. Biblical based counselling does not infer any judgement or inflexibility within the therapeutic process.

My approach to Christian counselling draws on cognitive science and the understanding of Jesus as a guide into metanoia — a transformation of mind and being. This is not about doctrine but about moving beyond propositional belief into participatory knowing — a lived alignment with love, presence, and meaning. I help clients heal from spiritual injury, alienation, or disconnection from the Sacred, restoring right relationship with self, others, and the divine through a process grounded in agape and transformation.

As a Christian, my faith shapes the compassion, hope, and grace I bring into each session. I believe every person is created in God’s image and has the capacity to heal, grow, and experience meaningful change. For many of us faith is not just important it is critical. As a professional therapist, I work with all kinds of faiths, with respect and honor. However I do identify and enjoy working within the context of Christianity. Over the last twenty-five years I have worked closely with believers, congregations, denominations and their leaders through individual, marriage and family issues but also issues of faith. Some times we struggle with our faith and it becomes more of a stumbling block. Other times it becomes our anchor. Having Christ as the center of history and ones life allows for resources that significantly bolster therapy.

When requested we have therapists who are able to integrate bible teaching and prayer into professional therapy approaches. A number of our therapists have spent time studying the integration of Christian faith and professional counselling. When Christians are going through a difficult time they are usually looking for a counsellor that shares their world view. A Christian therapy approach can help people connect with God in the midst of their pain. Working through their concerns with the integration of their faith can help them bring their whole self to the process. We also understand that sometimes people have been hurt in Christian communities and are sensitive to these dynamics.

I hold a Masters of Divinity in Clinical Counselling from Tyndale University. I also spent over 20 years involved in various Christian Leadership roles. I do not practice or hold to this religion any longer. In my clinical work, I work with clients who are processing spiritual abuse/trauma and I regularly work with clients who are navigating deconstruction. I believe it is important to clarify, I am affirming and fully accepting of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. I consider myself an ally to this community. In my clinical work, I consider it an honour to work with members of this community who have been wounded by the Christian Church.

I use various counselling techniques, including therapeutic art making, talking therapy, scriptures, and prayer to counsel those who are practicing Christians, new Christians, or interested in Christianity. I help those who are struggling with their faith, as well as those who are not struggling with their faith, but simply want counselling in the framework of their Christian background, I take a Christian approach to counselling my clients through the tough times. I understand the importance of faith in the healing process; whether it is dealing with an illness, overcoming abuse, the loss of a sense of identity, or broken relationships. It was this experience that led me to become a psychotherapist, and I have been blessed over the years to walk alongside others as they learn to live happier, more fulfilled lives.

Due to various challenges that I experienced as a child I often felt I had the weight of the world on my shoulder. Therefore as a teenager and most of my childhood I suffered with depression.
