For many Christians, it can be a challenge to find a counsellor who shares their belief system. At Meristem, our services are rooted in evidence-based therapeutic approaches presented through a Christian lens for those who so desire. To me, the greatest part of being a Christian is being Christ-like, meaning, looking at each and every individual as a worthwhile human being, created for a purpose. When people stop believing in themselves, I like to help them get back on track and feel good about themselves. I’ve successfully worked with disadvantaged kids, the elderly, troubled teens, ashamed individuals, and couples feeling hopeless. I see my clients through the Lord’s eyes, as precious and valuable, and I do my best to help them look at themselves that way. I strongly believe in divine forgiveness and lack of judgment, which allows people in the darkest places to forgive themselves and have hope for a better future.

For many of us faith is not just important it is critical. As a professional therapist, I work with all kinds of faiths, with respect and honor. However I do identify and enjoy working within the context of Christianity. Over the last twenty-five years I have worked closely with believers, congregations, denominations and their leaders through individual, marriage and family issues but also issues of faith. Some times we struggle with our faith and it becomes more of a stumbling block. Other times it becomes our anchor. Having Christ as the center of history and ones life allows for resources that significantly bolster therapy.

My approach to Christian counselling draws on cognitive science and the understanding of Jesus as a guide into metanoia — a transformation of mind and being. This is not about doctrine but about moving beyond propositional belief into participatory knowing — a lived alignment with love, presence, and meaning. I help clients heal from spiritual injury, alienation, or disconnection from the Sacred, restoring right relationship with self, others, and the divine through a process grounded in agape and transformation.

I use various counselling techniques, including therapeutic art making, talking therapy, scriptures, and prayer to counsel those who are practicing Christians, new Christians, or interested in Christianity. I help those who are struggling with their faith, as well as those who are not struggling with their faith, but simply want counselling in the framework of their Christian background, I take a Christian approach to counselling my clients through the tough times. I understand the importance of faith in the healing process; whether it is dealing with an illness, overcoming abuse, the loss of a sense of identity, or broken relationships. My approach meets my clients where their faith is.

Due to various challenges that I experienced as a child I often felt I had the weight of the world on my shoulder. Therefore as a teenager and most of my childhood I suffered with depression. My experiences however also revealed my life’s purpose and incited the desire to support others ex-periencing their own challenges. It was only through the support of key people in my life and the grace of God that changed my outlook on life. I hold a Masters of Divinity in Clinical Counselling from Tyndale University. I also spent over 20 years involved in various Christian Leadership roles. I do not practice or hold to this religion any longer. In my clinical work, I work with clients who are processing spiritual abuse/trauma and I regularly work with clients who are navigating deconstruction. I believe it is important to clarify, I am affirming and fully accepting of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. I consider myself an ally to this community. In my clinical work, I consider it an honour to work with members of this community who have been wounded by the Christian Church.
