Eating disorders are one of the most challenging areas of counselling because food is essential to life. Unlike other substance abuse concerns, you can't quit eating, even if you would like to or feel compelled to. Eating disorders often have their origins in emotional and cognitive disorders that begin early in life and relate to our perceptions of our appearance or the role of food in our family life and how we have been taught to feel about food and our own dietary habits. Sarah has worked with many individuals suffering from various eating disorders including anorexia, bulimia and obesity. In counselling, Sarah will assist you to understand the root cause of your eating disorder and will help you to find resolution to these issues. I help clients overcome addictive relationships with food. Like all addictions, the behavior is the tip of the iceberg, used to cope with underlying thoughts and emotions. Through collaborative conversations, clients gain insight into underlying concerns, gaining coping skills to more effectively navigate these issues. I draw on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), helping clients achieve a sense of freedom and control over their lives, leading to long-term change.
