In my family therapy practice, we will work on strengthening the overall health of your family system, not just resolving one relationship within it. Whether it is looking at conflicts that repeat, emotional distances that develop, or uneven power dynamics, I strive to create an atmosphere that develops clearer communication and safer connection. My approach places an emphasis on structure and boundaries so that conversations can be productive and emotionally safe, particularly when teens are involved. The goal is a calmer, more harmonious family environment where challenges and needs can be addressed without disrupting the sense of safety and belonging.

I am the only Registered Marriage & Family Therapist in Saugeen Shores. Most RMFTs are trained in a systems approach to family therapy. This means we view the family as a system and try to improve the interactions between members of the system in order to improve the overall functioning of the family. We will explore what works well and what needs to be improved in a non-blaming supportive atmosphere.

Family therapy is aimed at addressing and improving the dynamics within a family unit. We all learn differently, express differently, and quite often perceive experiences differently because we bring a different "lens" and that is why your counsellor needs to be CREATIVE and FLEXIBLE. As parents we feel a deep responsibility to be these great parents and raise remarkable kids, but life isn't so easy and we are far from perfect. My interest in Family Therapy grew out of my work with patients in acute care hospitals. As I interacted with the patients and their families, I realized that if one family member is in pain, all the family members are somehow affected. This insight caused me to shift my focus away from the more traditional psychodynamic theories I was earlier taught in University and to focus instead on how family therapy and family systems brought healing. This growing body of literature, which started in the 1960s, has revolutionized my thinking, enabling me to find a more generous, holistic, and integrated approach to patient care and family healing.
