The city of Cochrane, Ontario is a great place for visitors and permanent residents. Start with the polar bear habitat and heritage village. This popular local attraction was opened in August of 2004 and features an updated facility unlike any other in the world. Visitors can browse the small gift shop after taking in the interpretive room presenting films, activities and speaker presentations. Upon leaving the facility, visitors follow a path to the bear viewing building. Inside, children and adults can observe real, life polar bears going about their regular lives. Beyond the bear viewing building awaits the Heritage Village. This recreation is modeled after a 1900s era street, with store, farm house, and garage. Snowmobile hobbyists can also check out the unique snowmobile museum.1 A snack shack is available for refreshments during your visit. During every second weekend in August, the village hosts its annual Pioneer Days event open to all visitors.
Marriage and Couples Mental Health in Cochrane
Cochrane is a very small area, located in Ontario, which is home to less than 4,000 people. Although it has seen some decrease in population, it is still an area that is strong and involved. There are frequent events and the community is led by a mayor that cares about the citizens and makes a point to be very welcoming and personal with the people.
Marriage and divorce statistics in this area are much better than they are in other parts of Ontario, but there are still concerns for mental health among couples and families. Some typical mental illnesses in this area are depression and bipolar disorder. Illnesses like this can cause major problems for a family and lead to many problems. There are many different mental health services available nearby and you can call 1-866-531-2600 to get connected with some that will help you and your family. 2 In particular, the Minto Counselling Centre is a great choice for people who are struggling with mental illness�they also provide couple and family counseling�and they can be contacted by phone at 705-272-4245.3
Family Services and Assistance Programs
In addition to mental health concerns, there have also been problems with poverty�some families are struggling to make ends meet. This is a part of life and, thankfully, there are housing options available for families who face homelessness. They work to make housing affordable and can offer shelter to families who are facing a crisis.4 Families can also find food pantries and other assistance that they need through these services, and there will always be resources available.
