Campbell California is a relatively small city whose boundaries still lie within the infamous Silicon Valley.Located in Santa Clara County, Campbell is a city, suburb of San Jose and part of the San Francisco Bay region. With a population of close to 40,000 and an unemployment rate of only 5.8 %, Campbell offers people a small town feeling with a good selection of Silicon Valley employers.1 Founded by Benjamin Campbell in 1846, the town grew because of the railway system. Mr. Campbell sold his land to the railroad for $5 an acre, and soon enough, Campbell became a hub for the fruit industry. In addition, the drying grounds and canneries bolstered Campbell’s importance to the agricultural community. Today’s Campbell is a little different, serving mostly as a transient town to the larger cities nearby. It is not a essentially a technological enterprise like most of its Silicon Valley neighbors, but it is known as the first home of the internet auctioning phenomenon known as eBay. The most interesting attractions in the city is incorporated with its vast history. The Ainsley House, built in 1925, is a part of the Campbell Historic Museum and its interior is a replication of life in the 1920s.

The Santa Clara County Department of Mental Health is organized, and very easy to navigate. They have individual counseling, as well as couples, marriage, and family counseling. Catholic Charities also provides state and county services through Medi-Cal and the CalWorks program.3

Current Initiatives

The Santa Clara Division of the National Alliance on Mental Illness has a meeting scheduled in March 2014. They are planning new models for early detection of mental illness.4 On the County level, the Department of Mental Health has plans to redesign the Adult System of Mental Health Care, but there were no details given on the January 2014 committee meeting. Presumably, the system needs redesigning in order to meet the requirements set by the Affordable Care Act. Most mental health care programs will face adjustments as California implements that law.
