A Turning Point: Why I do what I do?

I began a career in counselling after experiencing a significant battle with my mental health after the birth of our fourth child. I developed postpartum depression and anxiety. In my exhaustion and through treatment, I felt the sting and stigma experienced by others when facing mental health issues. I felt isolated and deplete and reached out to a therapist who journeyed along with me in my recovery. This was where I learned that I could recover, that I was going to be ok and that I was not alone in my suffering. The trust, acceptance, and empathy, I experienced were critical to my healing. I knew I was not alone in my pain.

My greatest desire is to create a similar space where others feel safe to process the areas of life that keep them stuck, depressed, anxious and unsettled. I believe that healing involves the whole person: mind, body and spirit. I am deeply grateful for the counselling relationship I have had, and this positive experience shaped my desire to acquire my counselling degree.

The Journey: Get out of the rut

Do you feel unsettled, worried or stuck? Do you have a sense that you are in a rut, created from doing the same things over and over, and not getting different results? Maybe you feel unsatisfied with your relationships, or that your life lacks meaning? Exploring these dark places alone feels terrifying, but healing comes when you connect with someone you trust. Sometimes the small shifts create a ripple through your life that changes how you see yourself and how you relate to others. When you are not walking the road alone, you feel resourced with a greater capacity for healing and growth.

I like to work in collaboration with my clients to process and establish the goals of their therapeutic work. We will explore areas that need healing and help you feel more resilient. You will feel emotionally engaged with others. You will begin to make sense of what doesn't feel right and transform the stuck places. You will take charge of your anxiety, express your emotions, and experience greater self-esteem.

My Hope: How I practice

If you are looking to identify the traps in your thinking that keep you deflated, I will work with you to help you reach your goals and undo the feeling of being alone. AEDP is an experiential approach where we privilege the positive and help you live more fully and freely.

My hope is that you experience freedom from old patterns of relating to the world, learn to express difficult emotions, challenge limiting beliefs and create more meaningful life experiences. I work within this approach using emotion-focused, experiential and attachment based therapies. I, also, have Level 2 training in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, (AEDP).

Through my training and personal experiences, I know the relationship with your counsellor is key to the counselling process. This is why I offer the free consultation. If we are not a fit, I am happy to refer you to another counsellor that might suit you better.

I offer individual online counselling focussing on issues related to:
  • life transitions (divorce, marriage, parenting, school)
  • self-esteem and assertiveness
  • relationships and healthy attachment
  • trauma
  • anxiety and stress
  • emotional regulation
  • depression
  • personal and spiritual growth
