Cognitive behaviour therapy assists us with discovering our reactions and assumptions that we developed to protect ourselves but that ended up by hindering our enjoyment of life. We use thought records, behavioural experiments and other techniques to access our inner world. We then work together to adjust our thinking biases and to develop experiments that allow us to test the veracity of the new, more flexible assumptions. Sometimes things may be very hard to articulate, as during panic. It appears that our body insists on communicating danger despite evidence to the contrary. In these situations we may rely on exposure techniques to assist with elimination of our conditioned fears.

The key is to find the right therapist and psychotherapy ... "what works" for you. Research confirms that a positive alliance between the client and the counsellor is one of the best predictors of outcomes in therapy. I am trained and experienced with numerous models of change. Clients report, however, that they feel the most heard and understood when I help them open up their emotions. John Gottman states that Susan Johnson is "the best couple therapist in the world." I have been trained by Susan Johnson and I highly recommend her book to you, Hold Me Tight, and also my Couples' 11 Emotional Needs Survey.

I take a positive based approach in my counselling. I believe that lasting change happens when you draw out the truths within yourself and your relationships. I do not treat people as problems, as people are people and problems are problems. I do not like lables; I believe people are a lot more than what they may be currently struggling with. I seek to understand the full context of a person, rather than just focusing on a specific issue.

Psychotherapy addresses some of the same challenges as counselling does, but aims its focus more deeply on the psychological roots of problems and unhealthy behavior patterns. Some of our belief- and behavior patterns develop in childhood, others evolve through subsequent life experiences. In our sessions, I will gently help you understand your emotions, thoughts and action and where they might originate. We will explore possible sources of your stress, and I will guide and support you to become aware, that you can heal your past and explore ways to effectively cope in the present.

Psychotherapy is a process which delves into a person's issues in a way that promotes increased understanding and insight. It involves using various therapeutic techniques, including cognitive therapy, which examines thinking patterns and distortions, thereby facilitating change; solution-focused therapy, which focuses on the present issue requiring a solution; and family of origin therapy which explores how one became the person they are today. I work in partnership with you to help you clarify the issues and better understand your view of self, others and of life. This enhanced understanding helps my clients move forward in their journeys toward healing, happiness and fulfillment.
Bernie Golden, RIHR
Psychotherapy is a supportive, confidential and understanding process. Sessions are designed to help you reach your goals and enhance your quality of life.
The foundation of Bernie’s approach to psychotherapy is that each person is unique, and that there is no set formula that works for every person. Because no two individuals are the same, Bernie draws from many different psychotherapy approaches. The approaches Bernie draws from include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Humanistic, Emotion Focused Therapy, Dialectical Therapies, Solution Focused approaches, and Psychodynamic Therapies.

People come to counselling not because they don't have answers to their problems, people usually know what they should do, but they can't seem to do them. My role as your pschotherapist is less about telling you what to do (which is actually the easier part), I am here to help you clear away some of the junks that stop you from seeing and "doing" the answers. After that, I will help you reach your goal step by step.

Are you tired of feeling bad about yourself, comparing yourself to others and feeling 'less than' or not having the motivation to take good care of yourself? Do you find that your mind constantly drifts to things that have happened in the past or worries about what might happen in the future? Do you find that you've withdrawn from the activities you used to enjoy and are spending most of your time by yourself? I provide Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, which is a blend of mindfulness training and CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy). I provide compassionate care whereby I will help you deal with your issues with more skills and less fear/confusion. I would be honoured to work with you.
Anna Toth, M.Sc., RMFT, Approved Supervisor
Many of us struggle with persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, or a sense of not being good enough. A therapist can help you change your story of yourself and your experience of being in the world. I am able to help with any of the following:
panic and anxiety
loneliness
depression
grief, loss and sadness
feelings of worthlessness and despair
struggles with anger
problems in relationships: finding them, keeping them, being "true" to them, knowing when it's time to end them...
I can also help with specific struggles you might have, such as:
memories and experiences of harm, abuse, violation or trauma in childhood and adulthood
the loss of a lo....
Ashley Kreze, M.A., OACCPP
Psychotherapy is a place where you can feel comfortable to "be yourself". It is okay to ask yourself where your life is today, and where you'd like to be in the future. Psychotherapy can help us with an obstacles or event that is happening in our lives that causes us grief, pain, and feels uncomfortable. In these situations, it is reassuring to have another person to go over these events with us. We analyze and work through these events,as well as develop coping strategies to help us in our daily lives.
