I believe strongly that human beings are naturally designed to form close connections with others. Emotional difficulties can often be linked back to challenging relationships with those closest to us. I help to facilitate discussions that support individuals to appropriately deal with the issues that are negatively impacting the family's functioning. By examining how the family as a whole interacts and understanding those problematic communication patterns, change can be fostered. Through an open and supportive counselling environment, family members develop compassion and connectedness that allows for the healing of past pain.

I help families practice communication skills and build strong relationships while helping them address individual and family issues with skills from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), a research based approach in which I am certified. I combine individual meetings with sessions involving more than one family member at different points in my work with a family.

The focus in counselling is on the parent-child relationship. Issues that make parenting challenging are also addressed such as a parent’s own unmet emotional needs, stress, fatigue, feelings of guilt, a difficult birth experience, mental health issues, relationship difficulties, conflicts with extended family, or history of abuse. Every family has their own way of doing things and although there can be moments of harmony, sometimes bonds can be disrupted and people require help to become reconnected.
