For some, a career is a large part of one's identity. For others, it is simply a means to an end or a small part of a bigger picture. I approach career counselling by helping you discover and explore what a career and any related decisions mean for you. By doing this, I hope to help you uncover insight and clarity towards career choices and transitions.

Our careers are often about our aspirations and how we want to use our gifts in the world. If you find yourself stuck or unfulfilled, you may be finding yourself blocked from your highest potential. There may be personality factors involved or there may be another route waiting for you to explore. We will assess your situation to see where you may be getting stuck and where your heart is in relation to your work. This may involve accessing intuition, as well as the facts of the matter. Be prepared to explore widely as we evaluate many paths that may lead in new directions. The closed doors of today are often the windows into new possibilities for tomorrow!

Career counseling, although a ‘named form’ of counseling in itself, is yet quite transient. Usually once I begin working with a client who is requesting career counseling, we find that the hiccups they are experiencing in their quest is based on fear, anxiety and/or stress, health issues, sometimes addictions (or the addictions of others), anger issues, depression, or even shrapnel from their family of origin. So I do not view career counseling as a sole issue but rather a symptom. I love to work in this arena since it allows me to be a CSI agent for an hour, unlocking hidden truths that have become speed bumps along life’s journey to achieve one’s personal best.

I thoroughly enjoy working with young adult clients on assisting them in beginning their career journey. I also work with adult clients who are in the beginning stages of making career changes including going back to school. I know how scary "change" can be especially when it has financial implications. Career Counselling with me begins with developing rapport and relationships. We move at a pace you are comfortable with and examine the variables involved in decision-making. I support clients throughout the change process.

I help people gain clarity and a sense of purpose/ direction regarding their careers. I believe that "career" is an ever-evolving process, which occurs throughout people's life span. That is why I work with clients in a non-linear, creative way to help them cultivate a career that is fulfilling and life-giving. I also help clients with the mental health aspect of their careers, such as stress, anxiety. and burnout, which often interferes with their career satisfaction.

I understand that life transitions can bring about a sense of uncertainty, especially when it comes to your career path. In our career counseling sessions, we'll take a holistic approach, exploring your skills, interests, and values to help you make informed decisions. We'll also look at practical aspects like resume building and interview techniques. While change can be daunting, it's also an opportunity for growth and new beginnings. Together, we'll work to not only navigate these transitions but to also turn them into stepping stones for a fulfilling career and a brighter future.

Career choices can seem all-important and overwhelming. Whether you are starting, restarting, or making a change in your career - I can help you discover what the best fit for you may be. We will investigate what you are good at, what your passions are, and what kind of a working environment you need to do your best work. Along with all this we will seek to discover how and why you react to certain personalities or management styles. When you understand the reasons of your reactions we can then find ways for you to respond to situations in a healthy manner for yourself. Working from TA perspective can provide clients with the tools and concepts applicable to both personal and professional development. Helping clients explore their interests, their likes, wishes and dreams will open the door for a co-creative process of finding one's talents, growing them and applying them in practice.

I look forward to helping clients through career counselling in making difficult transitions easier. I believe in first developing meaningful connections with my clients. Instead of relying on career aptitude tests and personality tests I will want to understand the clients' worries and desires. I will look to setting up specific goals with my clients and redirecting them to their goals.

I truly believe that choosing one single career path can be one of the more difficult decisions we have to make in life. At times it may feel like there is immense societal and cultural pressure to choose a specific career path, but at the end of the day, I am curious to explore what it is you value, free from outside judgements. Different people prioritize different factors when choosing a career, and it is important for me to help identify what your priorities are. From there we can brainstorm potential avenues and build motivation to help bring those thoughts into reality. It is often action that creates motivation, not the other way around.

It is one thing to embark on a new career path, and a whole other to find the sweet spot of purpose, contribution, vitality and practical stability that leads to a really fulfilling vocation. The latter requires the courage to allow, shape and stay with a vision and the skills to navigate the inevitable peaks and valleys in confidence that are natural to the process. It is necessary to develop the ability to structure your own time toward your goal, maintaining the stability necessary to take new opportunities and creative risks.
