As a psychotherapist, you listen and notice body movements and the feelings your client is focusing on. You explore what would happen if you let go of the old ways and created new ways, that helped your client find strength, self esteem and a sense of taking control over how he/she wants his/her life to be. You go for a walk and talk, exploring options. You build trust, being present , validating their feelings. Letting them know you are there for them. Positive change is possible....

Since I began my journey 50 years ago I may be farther along and I may have accumulated certain wisdom on the way. I take it as my job to tell you about any self-defeating behaviors I see you using and to give you ideas about what healthy alternative behaviors might be. Therapy is a joint endeavor designed to support youo in ejecting behaviors that keep you stuck and mastering new behaviors that increase your chances of deepening intimacy.
