My approach to couples counseling involved educating couples on empirically identified factors that contribute to a healthy relationship. Couples identify their important emotional needs and what their partner does that causes unhappiness. They commit to meeting one another's emotional needs and to stop being the cause of one another's unhappiness. Couples are encouraged to spend several hours each week giving one another undivided attention to overcome causes of unhappiness and in meeting emotional needs. Structured assignments are given to facilitate this process with excellent results.

Being a part of a couple can be the most rewarding venture but at times it can be extremely challenging. As a couple moves through life there are bumps in the journey. Whether it is related to parenting, communication or lack of, infidelity issues or wanting to enrich a relationship, counseling can be beneficial. The basic tenets of marital counseling are addressed in my couples therapy, including but not limited to: Communication, Problem-Solving, and Conflict-Resolution. In addition, I believe that each partner is responsible for his/her own choices and cannot, nor should not, try to change the other person. Inevitably, change occurs in the family system if one is working on his/her own issues and taking responsibility for his/her own actions. Therefore, as each person learns to experience the grace that God extends to him or her can he or she see the partner through God's eyes and be able to extend that grace to the partner as well, ultimately finding healing in their couple relationship.

Couples counseling and sex therapy are specialty areas of mine. I work with people in various stages of relationships, tackling a variety of concerns and dynamics including relational and sexual issues, infidelity, desire changes, lack of excitement, changes in the relationship, and many others. Having an objective third party helps couples find more clarity in their direction forward. I work with each couple to better identify the problematic patterns or behaviors in their relationship as this can be difficult to navigate without an objective third party. I help improve overall emotional and sexual intimacy, and provide clients with strategies they can use throughout their relationship.
