River Edge is a small size town, with little more than 11,000 people, located near the Hackensack River. Two primary schools serve the community- Cherry Hill and Roosevelt. The Bergen County Special Services School District provides early learning opportunities for children with disabilities. As part of an integrated program that promotes optimal functioning, disabled children attend preschool and kindergarten classes alongside typically developing children. Through this supportive and inclusive environment, disabled children develop positive social interactions with their peers, while their peers develop a greater understanding and acceptance of children different from themselves. The North Jersey Homeschoolers Association provides guidance to families who have chosen to teach their children in the home. The organization provides valuable resources for developing curriculum and getting homeschooled children involved in social engagements as well as extracurricular activities.
