With my many years in education I am able and skilled at working with and relating to children and adolescents. Childhood should be a time for healthy growth and development. For many children and teens, it is a time of great emotional stress. Children react to stress in many ways including withdrawal and acting out behaviors at home and school. My approach to counseling and helping children focuses on creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where they feel comfortable expressing themselves. I use age-appropriate techniques such as play therapy, storytelling, and creative activities to encourage communication and emotional growth. Building trust is essential, and I work closely with families to support the child’s overall development. My goal is to help children build confidence, develop coping skills, and navigate their emotions in a healthy, constructive way.

Our team works collaboratively with parents to provide children with the tools necessary to raise confident and healthy children. We specialize in helping children manage feelings of anxiety and building leadership skills in order to maximize their success on all levels. Our team is experienced with working directly with children ages 6+, and offer parent coaching for children under 6 years of age.

Children learn by trial, error and parental guidance, and when faced with new situations or expectations, emotions will surface as a normal reaction. Young children have limited communication skills, and often a temper tantrum is the only means to communicate that they need help. However, when severe emotional symptoms develop into an unhealthy pattern, parents should seek professional help. I love working with children!! Children are wired to learn. Often, though, they struggle to communicate their needs, wants and wishes with others in a proper way. Likewise, adults struggle in the same way and/or feel inadequate in coaching their children. Broken communication lines can cause major side effects. This is where I come in. I'm able to connect with most children quit rapidly. I find that whenever children feel understood, they quickly establish a safe bond and share their stories with me. Once this bond is built, most children can't wait to come back to see me for more life coaching/counselling. Parents are always surprised by this.

Counselling for young children can address challenges with behaviour and emotions, trauma, stress, self-expression and problem-solving. Children can face many stressors including bullying and other school stressors, as well as family-related changes such as divorce, a move, illness and death. I include many modalities in therapy with young children, including music, art, play and role-playing.

I work in tandem with parents and families to provide individual therapy for children and youth over the age of 7. Through talk therapy with elements of play and creativity, we can work together to learn more about improving wellness, conflict resolution, school progress, and more. With over twelve years of experience as an educator in addition to my recent therapeutic work, I hope to create a safe, fun, and rewarding therapeutic experience for you and your child.

Parents bring their young children or adolescents to see me for counselling when they are having severe conflicts with them, when they see that their kids are struggling with school-work or with peer relationships, and when their children are experiencing psychological distress such as anxiety, depression, or difficulty adjusting to change. In all my work, I include the parents as partners in the treatment process.

A number of associates at New Leaf Psychology Centre provide services to young children and youth. Dr. Brunet offers attachment based play therapy for parents and their children (ages 0 through 6). This approach facilitates connection between parent and child, and is ideal for parents who are frustrated and/or children who have behavioral difficulties. Dr. Saliba offers dialectical behavior therapy for school age children and teens. She works with children and youth who are anxious, depressed, and/or engage is self-harm behaviors.
