Many issues later in life can stem from stress and challenges that influence several family members. When parents face change or difficulty, children will inevitably feel the pressure as well, they need to understand what is going on in terms they can understand. Parents also need support, but in a different way than the children. Families often seek out Counselling to help support each member of the family, someone who can be supportive but neutral so as to diffuse strong emotions and encourage family members to deal with stress in a healthy way in order to build resilience. This is my approach to Family Therapy and I look forward to helping you and your family build resilience.

Families can be created in a multiplicity of ways: we can be born into them; brought into them through adoption or other means; and sometimes their members consist of people who have a deep affinity for each other. In any form they take, "family" is synonymous with "in relationship," and these relationships must be nourished. In family counselling, I support families in building new communication pathways in order to process past injuries and strengthen connection. I specialize in pre-natal and postpartum family counselling.

Family counselling takes many forms. I may see the whole family, or I may see parents alone as a part of therapy as well as seeing their child alone, but ultimately working towards healthier families. Every family is different and is offered what they need to help them work on their particular issues, build stronger communication, and connect more deeply.

When I provide family therapy, I focus on helping each member understand their role in the family system and how their patterns affect communication, conflict, and emotional regulation. Clients benefit from my direct, structured approach. I help families identify exactly where communication breaks down, what triggers escalate conflict, and which dynamics keep them stuck. In sessions, I guide families in learning concrete skills such as active listening, setting boundaries, expressing needs clearly, and reducing reactive behaviours. I use a combination of systemic thinking, emotion-focused strategies, and DBT skills to help members stay regulated while talking about difficult topics.

In my family therapy practice, we will work on strengthening the overall health of your family system, not just resolving one relationship within it. Whether it is looking at conflicts that repeat, emotional distances that develop, or uneven power dynamics, I strive to create an atmosphere that develops clearer communication and safer connection. My approach places an emphasis on structure and boundaries so that conversations can be productive and emotionally safe, particularly when teens are involved. The goal is a calmer, more harmonious family environment where challenges and needs can be addressed without disrupting the sense of safety and belonging.
