Chatham-Kent, Ontario is a very historical city with numerous family-friendly attractions. Given its rich and turbulent history, the city is thought to have quite a bit of paranormal activity, with ghost stories both past and present. The historic Uncle Tom’s Cabin is a museum of the Dawn Settlement that was established in 1841 as a refuge for the slaves who escaped to Canada from the United States. This location is highly educational for everyone within the family. Those more interested in sports should take a family trip to the nearby area, which has multiple hockey leagues for children and teenagers to enjoy. There have been many famous people come from Chatham-Kent, including many actors and novelist. In terms of higher education, there are a couple of colleges in the city including St. Clair College and the University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus, which is more commonly known as Ridgetown College.1 St. Clair has around 5,000 full time students and 12,000 part time students each year and may be of interest to your teenagers upon graduation.

Ontario is home to Chatham, a beautiful area that is filled with people of all ages. Over recent years, there have been many developments to this area, and this community is really starting to thrive.2 While more progress is being made every day and the quality of life is improving for many people, there are still those families, couples, and individuals who are really struggling.
Despite much better living conditions, there are many people who are struggling. Mental health among teens has been a serious issue, and this has led to teen pregnancies. Many of these have led to single mothers trying to make it on their own�and there are older parents who have gone through a divorce or lost their spouse. Single parenting is never easy for anyone. Parents Without Partners is an organization that works in the area to help single mothers and fathers to get the resources they need in order to provide great, happy and healthy lives for their children.3 You can view some of their information and look into the services they offer at their webpage; they have a great brochure that will tell you everything you need to know.
Family Services and Assistance Programs
Throughout Chatham, there are also shelters for the homeless and for women and children who have been the subject of domestic abuse. You can call the Chatham-Kent Womens Centre Inc. at their crisis line (519-354-6360).4 The Municipality of Chatham-Kent also offers health and family services that are vital to residents of this area. They can be reached by phone at the number 519-351-8573. Programs such as these help to guide struggling couples, families, and individuals in the right direction and they give them the extra push that they need.
