Hi, my name is Jill and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). I utilize a person-centered, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive approach to treatment. I also provide a warm, judgement free space for clients to feel comfortable during the therapeutic process. I have experience working with trauma recovery, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, addictions, relationships, and other issues faced by many people. The pandemic has also opened my eyes to the effects of burnout, stress, and isolation, which is extremely apparent now, and therefore has informed my experience and skills to a new level. If you are trying to navigate these areas of life, I am confident that we can work together to help you rediscover what brings happiness to your life. Therapy can provide a way to address your problems and learn strategies to help you now, and in the future.
I have always loved psychology, prompted by the desire to understand the human mind in order to better assist those in need of help. I completed my BA in Forensic Psychology and Criminology at Ontario Tech University. I gained an extensive amount of experience working front line with individuals with severe mental health issues and developmental disorders, in a group home setting through direct support, counselling, developing behaviour support plans, and empowerment. I enjoyed this work a lot but wanted to help people at a deeper level than I was able to as a support worker.
It took some time along my career journey to discover my passion for counselling in particular, which I discovered through personal experiences, helping people in my life through hard times, and working in mental health. After a lot of soul searching and research, I found that counselling was the best way to utilize my skills and passions to help those that need help overcoming life’s challenges. I then began my journal through the MA in Counselling Psychology program at Yorkville University.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my partner and dogs, travelling, live music, and new experiences. I believe that we have one life to live, and that we can either choose to learn from our experiences and overcome challenges, or we can let them control us. I love helping people understand the things that are holding them back with an in-depth approach. Through identifying the underlying problems of the issues being faced, clients are able to realize their strengths and adjust their approach to situations and relationships.
Even the strongest people need a little bit of help to work through some of life’s more challenging problems, and we’d love to help you along the way. The first step of reaching out is the most difficult and takes the most courage, but it is why you are on this page right now. Contact me to discuss how we can help you through the journey of breaking free from the past and begin a better life of happiness and fulfillment.
