I am a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists, and operate my own private practice, Midnapore Counselling, in the Fish Creek Executive Centre in South Calgary. I love what I do, and am commited to evidence-based interventions.
People seek counselling to make changes in their life. To facilitate these changes I often use a three-stage model. First, I like to respectfully and carefully help clients explore and identify the real concerns and issues they have (person-centered therapy). Next, I like to promote accurate insight, if necessary, into the underlying reasons or root causes for why things might be the way they are (psychoanalytic and interpersonal therapy). But finally and mostly, I want you to be able to develop the skills and behaviors that will actually give you the better life you desire (cognitive-behavioral psychology). In this regard, I am a strategic therapist oriented towards the future. Clinical hypnosis is certainly a tool I use in this regard.
For couple counselling, I use the research-based model developed by John Gottman. This model allows couples to build a Sound Marital House. In session I also use Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy. Both of these approaches can bring about significant changes in any committed, long-term relationship. Over half of my practice involves couple work, and it is rewarding to see positive changes.
I have been married now for 31 years, and we have raised 5 children. I stay fit and mentally de-stressed doing cardio, resistance training, and Bikram Yoga.
