At Living Well we do not believe in "anger management" alone, as this simply manages symptoms as opposed to finding a cure. There are often very good reasons people are angry, and we believe these reasons need to be attended to for proper treatment to take place. If you choose to work with one of our therapists, the therapy will offer you ways to cope when you're feeling angry, but also resolution to much of the anger you feel. This form of treatment is often far better to see long lasting results.

Anger acted out can damage our relationships and leave us feeling ashamed about our behavior and lack of control. But like other feelings, anger has its reasons. In the process of learning to gain control of one’s anger, it becomes very important to find out what specifically those reasons are, as they often run deeper than we may think. Working with anger in therapy means treating it as a signal of something, a voice that needs to be heard. The voice may speak to our boundaries being crossed, an unmet need, or an old and deep pain. Working with awareness of body sensations can slow down the process – which is so key to anger management – and allow the true voice of anger to tell its story.

To work with anger management, we must get beyond the observable. While anger is an emotion that everyone feels from time to time, anger management typically means to self soothe or self regulate oneself in order to effectively manage an emotion we all feel at times. I dig beyond the typically issue of anger in order to work with the root cause of anger.

Anger is a positive emotion! Learning to use anger positively can result in less stress, greater happiness and a stronger sense of pride in one’s own responses. Anger motivates and empowers people to act in pursuit of justice, resolution and healing. It is first of all a compliment for those having the motive of caring about what is right. The secret of getting your anger to work for you is to unhook it from the second motive of guaranteeing that future injustices will not happen. Pursuing that guarantee just burns people out! At McNaughton and Associates Counselling, we will help you get the most out of your anger in a healthy manner, and escape damaging consequences.

Anger usually results from a lack of awareness and skill in identifying and connecting with our internal experience and feelings. When this happens emotions get "bottled up" and anger is the inevitable result. I teach strategies and techniques to help clients learn to effectively deal, NOT AVOID, their feelings. Learning identify and accept our internal experience is the key to leading a meaningful and fulfilling life. The benefits are life changing - better relationships, less stress/anxiety and greater success and happiness.

Anger is a healthy and important emotion, which every human being can identify with. Sometimes we act out our anger in ways that are not helpful or loving. Accessing counselling for anger can help you process your feelings, without having to get rid of them. Anger can be a healthy response to negative treatment or events. We’ve all gotten angry and it can help to communicate to others that we’re not okay with something. In fact, not having the ability to feel anger is a whole other issue. However, for some people, uncontrollable, overly frequent or inappropriate expressions of anger can damage relationships, career success or more. Shift Psychological can help the anger management process by identifying and treating the origins of the anger – the messages about self and the world that cause it. Then, using our unique approach we remove them. This results in an absence of reaction and an appropriate level of calm.

We all feel anger. It is how you use that anger that can cause harm to those you love, care about and work with. Anger is a secondary emotion. It is the emotion that people see in those who feel hurt and misunderstood. Anger is also an indication that your boundaries have been crossed. Let me show you how to use your anger appropriately and to uncover some of the beliefs that make anger your go to reaction.

Anger management counseling can help to identify stressors and learn the steps to stay calm in the face of anger. The goal is to handle tense situations in more constructive and positive ways by reducing the emotional and physical arousal that anger can cause. It will provide the tools to take back your life and resolve the triggers that result in unplanned anger reactions.

We all get angry at times. Healthy, constructive anger is one way that little voice inside your body says, 'Hey, something's not OK -- can we fix this?' Anger is just an emotion, like any other -- love, loneliness, shame, hope, boredom, happiness, ad infinitum. What makes anger a problem is what you choose to do in response to that little voice ... is your response unhealthy? Destructive? Sometimes anger is a problem when you ignore that little voice -- that warning signal that alerts you that all is not OK inside you and insists that you DO something about it. If your anger is getting in the way of your relationships and your quality of life, I can help you turn things around.
