Grief can be a difficult experience to navigate. I use a Narrative approach to helping clients move through the pain of grief. Using this approach, I help clients form a ‘relationship with grief’, knowing it can be with us for the rest of our lives. Clients come to know and understand grief, and spend time with it rather than running away or avoiding it. When grief is familiar and known, it has less power to overtake us at unexpected times.

My approach when working with grief and loss is to honour the relationship with your lost loved one. We have this idea that when someone dies that we are not supposed to talk about them anymore as if they never existed and that you are supposed to mourn and move on. I do not believe that is helpful. Instead, I believe there is a way to grieve that honours the person who no longer walks the earth and keeps the relationship alive. Death is the end of their physical presence but not their influence on your life.

Grief is a response to the loss of someone to who we are attached to. Generally speaking the greater the attachment to someone, the greater the sense of loss experienced. Loosing someone close to you can be very difficult to deal with because grief has physical, cognitive, behavioral, social and spiritual dimensions. Choosing some one to walk along side of you that has the training to help you during the difficult task of recovery is very important and can often shorten the process of resolving grief significantly.

Grief is a natural response to loss. One of the most important things we can do for grief is to honour it's presence. I will help you process the emotions around your grief, help you to put words to things you are feeling and hold space for you to feel all your feelings. Contrary to popular belief, grief involves any kind of loss, not just the loss of life, this could mean transitions, moves etc.
