Career Counseling is about change. Whether you are changing a career position, seeking a new field, or a student changing a major, the core of career counseling is preparation and the understanding of your goals and how they affect your life as a whole. In my practice, I do not use assessments or aptitude tests, as I believe the client is the best source of information. Together we will review your education, interests, work history and the reasons to make a change at this time in your life. Additionally, we will evaluate your level of risk taking, relationships and approaches to pursue a new career path. My style is comprehensive and tailored to you to help your reach your career goals.

Exploring strengths/weaknesses, talents and gifts, it makes it easier to maneuver through career choices. We strive to find how and where the client can do their best and how to create that opportunity for themselves. We work together to find necessary testing, training and education so that they have a realistic and achievable goal and plan. Areas of needed improvement are challenged and grown. Personal accountability is strengthen as well as communication skills.

Questions about work run deeper than they first appear. Feeling stuck, unfulfilled, or burned out in your career, dreading Mondays, or sensing you're on the wrong path entirely — these are rarely solved by a better resume or a quick pros-and-cons list. A large component of career choice is how we view ourselves and what we feel we can accomplish. So there's a big element of identity in there. I use Positive Psychology tools to assess the individual's strengths of character and what they view as important tools for success that they already have in their arsenal. From that perspective, we also look at those character strengths that could use a little further strengthening in order to best serve the individual reach their goals. Dreaming and imagining are big pieces of this process, so we also explore those in depth. I encourage realistic dreaming and identify fears and doubts that getting the way of dreaming and accomplishing dreams.

Careers are integral to the identities of many people, while for others careers are simply means for attaining a happy life.
