Most people will have very different multiple careers in their lives. This can be very confusing and frightening. We all want to make the right choices. We want to be happy in our work and make enough money to live the life style we desire. We want to make as few mistakes in our choices as possible. We will work to clear the clouds by getting closer to understanding our needs and desires. We will set action goals, identify targets, evaluate results and continue refining the process until we are satisfied with the results.

We spend the majority of our time at the workplace and so when we love our job, we have a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment. When we either don't have one or don’t love the one we have, we struggle greatly. My approach to career counseling is simple. Let's figure out what factors are important to you in life. Is it structure? Is it flexibility? Do you prefer working with a team or by yourself? Do you like to be creative? Do you like working with people? Once we figure out who you are and what you need to feel fulfilled, we can then find a career that caters to those desires.

Careers are integral to the identities of many people, while for others careers are simply means for attaining a happy life. Whether you’re developing your first career or looking to switch careers, I use a combination of assessment batteries and counseling to explore my clients’ goals, preferences, and aptitudes to identify their career path and develop a plan for achieving it.

In today's complex job market, many individuals find themselves grappling with confusion, diminished confidence, and paralysis when facing career decisions or difficulty workplace dynamics. A large component of career choice is how we view ourselves and what we feel we can accomplish. So there's a big element of identity in there. I use Positive Psychology tools to assess the individual's strengths of character and what they view as important tools for success that they already have in their arsenal. From that perspective, we also look at those character strengths that could use a little further strengthening in order to best serve the individual reach their goals. Dreaming and imagining are big pieces of this process, so we also explore those in depth. I encourage realistic dreaming and identify fears and doubts that getting the way of dreaming and accomplishing dreams.

Coaching sessions are specific to each individual and specific goals. It is standard for therapists to discuss the primary issues and concerns in your life during coaching sessions. It is common to schedule a series of weekly sessions, where each session lasts about fifty minutes. Coaching can be short-term, focusing on a specific issue, or can be longer-term, addressing more complex issues.

Oftentimes, people seek out career counseling because they are finding that their current job is not making them happy. From a Christian perspective, finding the work or "mission" God has designed you for is often called "finding your purpose" which we believe is the key to happiness in your work. In my work with Christians I strive to help people to find this purpose in their lives.
