I can help you to learn coping skills so you can handle life's complications, while also helping you discover the internal thoughts that disturb your sense of peace. I will help you to recognize what events in the past might be hindering you now so that you can feel more hopeful, more often.

When working with depression, I use a combination of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), talk therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) when working with adults and teens and play therapy when working with children. If there is a clinical depression diagnosis, Neurofeedback or consulting a doctor about medication options may also be recommended as a part of the treatment process.

Whether depression has been present since early childhood or came on after a challenging situation, depression makes everything in life harder. The feelings of depression can be intense and overwhelming, they can also be dull and numb. In counseling we take the times to explore what your experience of depression is like for you and create a plan reconnect to your most meaningful life. One of my primary therapeutic approaches is ACT-Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. In this model we learn many tools and interventions to release the grip of the struggle from our internal and external experiences, and start moving towards the things that really matter, give your life meaning value.

More often than not there is a reason for your depression, even when you are not consciously aware of it. Your body doesn't speak in words, the way your mind does, rather it communicates with you through your feelings, sensations, and emotions. Often ignoring your emotions can intensify your feelings of depression.
