Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress. It helps one deal with a tense situation in the office, study harder for an exam, or keep focused on an important speech. In general, it helps one cope. But when anxiety becomes an excessive, irrational dread of everyday situations, it has become a disabling disorder. These are typical symptoms that can help you identify an anxiety problem: * Sweaty palms * Muscle tension * Fast heart-bit and chest pain * Dizziness * Flushed cheeks * Difficulty breathing The physical sensations appear along with thoughts which undermine the ability to cope and overestimates risks. My treatment includes CBT, mindfulness and hypnotherapy.

Stress and anxiety is a part of everyone's day to day lives. However, when it becomes difficult to function due to loss of sleep, change in appetite, panic attacks, upset stomach, aches & pains, etc. therapy can be most beneficial. I use various relaxation techniques, deep breathing, mindfulness meditation, as well as talk therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques (addressing self defeating automatic thinking patterns which effect our mood and behavior). I can teach you how to manage unpleasant symptoms related to stress and anxiety.

Oftentimes people view anxiety as a bad feeling, however, through their work with me clients often find ways to live with their anxiety and turn the situation around. Anxiety is generally a fear of a wide variety of things, by addressing the roots of the anxiety and understanding that it can be faced head on, clients often find relief from the things that make them anxious. My work with anxiety is always gradual and clients are first made comfortable with their anxiety and then learn to cope and at times reduce anxieties where appropriate.

In working with clients on their anxiety and stress I primarily aim to promote understanding: understanding of why we are feeling so anxious and stressed, what factors contribute, what can be done to better manage or eliminate anxiety and stress from our lives, and most importantly, how to eliminate ambiguity from our lives. I specialize in working with clients on their stress and anxiety, whether it stems from work, relationships, family, trauma, lifestyle, or beliefs. It is only through understanding that we can promote comprehensive and meaningful change in our lives. I utilize principles of cognitive behavioural therapy, solution-focused work, and psychodynamics in my work.

Low levels of anxiety can motivate us to accomplish goals and perform at our best. As the level of experienced anxiety creeps higher, it robs us of our joy and can make us feel overwhelmed resulting in either inactivity or a compulsion to be overactive yet not experiencing any lasting relief. Our sense of internal peace and calm is replaced by perpetual overthinking and fear. Let's work together to gain insight into the root cause of your anxiety so that we are able to empower you to reclaim your experience of joy and a sense of internal calm.
