Anxiety is a feeling of fear, dread, and uneasiness. It might cause you to sweat, feel restless and tense, and have a rapid heartbeat. It can be a normal reaction to stress but sometimes it takes control. Anxiety disorders are very treatable. Most patients who suffer from anxiety are able to reduce or eliminate symptoms after several (or fewer) months of psychotherapy, and many patients notice improvement after just a few sessions. Through the cognitive component of therapy, patients learn to understand how their thoughts contribute to their anxiety symptoms. By learning to change those thought patterns, they can reduce the likelihood and intensity of anxiety symptoms.

I love working with people who wrestle with anxiety and stress, I love it because of the difference I witness in the lives and experiences of my clients. Employing a blend of mindfulness, somatic experiencing and neuroscience (polyvagal) techniques, the felt experience of anxiety can be managed in an entirely new way for you, and can lead to profound change in your life. I can not make it so that you never feel anxious again, but we can work to help you learn what to do when you experience the familiar sensations of anxiety, so that it doesn't take over your thoughts, body and life.

Anxiety can be a productive and useful tool in helping us understand and interpret our environment. However, when anxiety is chronic, it can take a significant toll on both physical and mental health, ultimately effecting all facets of our lives. I like to examine the causes of anxiety and understand what anxiety is attempting to communicate and protect one from. In doing so, I hope to reframe anxiety, foster acceptance and welcome healing and change. I am also a strong believer in self-care and giving oneself permission to rest, which is imperative in stress and anxiety management. Anxiety is an inescapable emotion, we've evolved to have this signal emotion. However, when a person regularly feels debilitating or distracting levels of anxiety, it can really hold them back. We begin anxiety with cognitive-behavioral therapy, which helps individuals identify and change negative thought patterns, and then tailor other types of Psychotherapy based on the individual's needs. We often focus on their relationships and communication patterns. By tailoring treatment, we're able to ensure each client gets help that meets them where they're at

Are you stressed and anxious? Of course you are! Never has daily life been more full of complications and competing priorities; but focusing on changing our behaviours often leaves us feeling even more defeated. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which has been proven to be the most effective treatment for anxiety, allows us to focus on our core beliefs and how they create automatic thoughts, which create anxiety and cause damaging behaviours such as avoidance and withdrawal. In addition to CBT strategies, we will explore how your past experiences have created a roadmap for how you view yourself, others, and the world, and will work to repair any roadblocks caused by those experiences.

I use an integrative non-pathologizing approach that validates the human condition. We all experience worry and stress but I work with clients to accept and understand how they can be curious about what it is that keeps them feeling stuck or stressed. Learning how to regulate our emotions supports our ability to maintain a balanced life. We have the power to switch from our fight/flight/freeze state to our rest/relax/digest state. Mindfully and with compassion, we can find a way through this together. Anxious symptoms often shows up with depressive symptoms and vice versa.

Low levels of anxiety can motivate us to accomplish goals and perform at our best. As the level of experienced anxiety creeps higher, it robs us of our joy and can make us feel overwhelmed resulting in either inactivity or a compulsion to be overactive yet not experiencing any lasting relief. Our sense of internal peace and calm is replaced by perpetual overthinking and fear. Let's work together to gain insight into the root cause of your anxiety so that we are able to empower you to reclaim your experience of joy and a sense of internal calm.
