Within a Biblical framework, counselling becomes an even richer process. A Biblical base simply means that the therapist believes that all human beings were created in the image of God, intended for relationship and designed with the capacity for growth and change. Forgiveness, personal empowerment, learning to love self and other are critical parts of the process. Jesus said "I came to heal the broken hearted" and at some point, most of us would love to sink into that compassionate offer. Many years ago while I asked God for a career path, He hired me to work in His counselling profession. I received my integrated training (God's word/Psychology) at Trinity Western University. Since, I have been privileged to work hand-in-hand with God helping people heal their emotional/spiritual wounds, hurtful and often dehydrated relationships. If God hadn't invited me into His counselling profession, I would not be a counsellor today. The best counselling outcomes are accomplished through God's leading, intervention, empowerment and healing. God guides the sessions with His truth, wisdom and love. I love my job. Daily, I thank God for letting me be part of His great commission.

Faith and spirituality is at the core of who we are. My Christian faith informs who I am and my worldview. If you are a Christian, or person of faith, you can be assured that I will honour and affirm your core beliefs and view of the world. Although I am a Christian, I do not practice prayer-based counselling, instead my approach is mainly clinical, and positve-based.

I provide psychotherapy, counselling, and mental health services that are grounded in my academic and experiential training. However, the foundation of my work is grounded in my faith. I firmly believe in a grand power/God that helps human beings to work for the healthy betterment of theirselves and of others. The main source of energy that drives us towards this betterment is love, compassion, and understanding. In faith based counselling and psychotherapy, I will help you to explore your own faith and spirituality and use these in supporting the resolution of resentful feelings, trauma, and other harmful experiences.

My Masters degrees are from Christian university and my program had a spiritual/pastoral component. This means I am able to talk about spirituality and how important it can be for healing and coping in your life. I am open-minded so I know this faith/belief takes many forms for many different people. We can start with chatting about how faith and spirituality has been for you. We can also not talk about this or make this part of your healing journey. It needs to be about you and comfort level and needs. My approach is spiritual rather than religious in nature. I support people that may feel a traditional religion harmed them and are trying to heal this so it can still be a part life.

I hold a Masters of Divinity in Clinical Counselling from Tyndale University. I also spent over 20 years involved in various Christian Leadership roles. I do not practice or hold to this religion any longer. In my clinical work, I work with clients who are processing spiritual abuse/trauma and I regularly work with clients who are navigating deconstruction. I believe it is important to clarify, I am affirming and fully accepting of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. I consider myself an ally to this community. In my clinical work, I consider it an honour to work with members of this community who have been wounded by the Christian Church.

My approach to counselling is attachment based and trauma informed. I have extensive training in emotionally focused therapy, the gold standard in couple's therapy, which I apply in my work with couples, families, and individuals. Emotionally focused therapy closely parallels the Christian faith in how it understands human personhood and connection. I am trained through a biblical lens and comfortable including faith in the work we will do. During our sessions I take an engaged and active role in the process, focused on helping you to identify the areas where you may be stuck and working with you to make changes aligned with your goals and faith.

For many Christians, it can be a challenge to find a counsellor who shares their belief system. They often find it more comforting and safe to share their struggles with a professional who can understand where they are coming from spiritually. At Meristem, our services are rooted in evidence-based therapeutic approaches presented through a Christian lens for those who so desire. To me, the greatest part of being a Christian is being Christ-like, meaning, looking at each and every individual as a worthwhile human being, created for a purpose. When people stop believing in themselves, I like to help them get back on track and feel good about themselves. I’ve successfully worked with disadvantaged kids, the elderly, troubled teens, ashamed individuals, and couples feeling hopeless. I see my clients through the Lord’s eyes, as precious and valuable, and I do my best to help them look at themselves that way. I strongly believe in divine forgiveness and lack of judgment, which allows people in the darkest places to forgive themselves and have hope for a better future.

I have spent my life in the study and teaching of Scriptures, and am aware of the vast variety and riches available to us in our different Christian traditions. I am a licensed practitioner with the Church of Religious Science which is a Christian based, non denominational, church. The foundational doctrines in this church follow the truth of Jesus' teachings. A fundamental teaching of this perspective is that God is love, and as such, Jesus is the representation of God, or love, in human form. We all have the potential to be "Christ conscious" and just as Jesus said, we all are capable of doing even greater works than he (John 14:12). My work as a Christian counsellor is not as adherent to a particular religious dogma as most, but rather broader, less dogmatic, and more firmly seated in the actual teachings of Jesus.

It is a particular passion of mine to work with clients who would like to bring their faith and their spirituality into counselling.
