My approach to psychotherapy is to listen to my clients and not offer 'advice'. I want to know how the client conceptualizes the 'problem' or 'struggle' at this time in their lives, and how they might see their lives or themselves if the 'problem' were resolved. I feel very strongly that clients are the experts of their own lives, and I am only there to guide as we explore those parts of the problem that might allow for an opening towards healing. I ask clients to reflect a lot on how an emotion 'shows up' in their body, and I use meditation for 5 minutes in most sessions, which clients tend to say if very relaxing. This allows for a 'reset' and new way of looking at the 'problem'.

Patterns of self-sabotaging behavioural, disorganized thinking and overwhelming emotion make life very difficult. How can we move forward when our bodies seem to betray us and we just need a break from the buzzing anxiety or the numbing of depression? What you may not know is all these symptoms are the imprint of our unfinished business, stuck in the body and just begging to be seen, cared for and accepted. I help individuals navigate through issues related to stress, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. I have a special interest in working with couples and relationship issues. My approach relies on extensive experience in Solution Focused Brief Therapy, TEAM-CBT, and MI. My approach supports client competencies (strengths) and solution based therapy. With sensitivity and compassion, I work with each client to help them build on solutions to their unique struggles and issues. I also have training in Art and Narrative Therapy, REBT, and Existential approaches. As well, I offer Parent Education Training assistance.

My hope is that you will find, as you look inward and gain insight; you will begin to makes choices that are true to yourself. I will help you to gain insight and improve your confidence as we explore your thoughts and feelings. You will gain an understanding of your behavior and strategies to move toward your potential. The goal is to help you live an authentic, meaningful life.

There is a reason we do what we do. At times, our dysfunctional actions may seem strange and baffling. However, through insight into our past, finding the symbolism and input we took from our experiences, and what messages we internalized, we can arrive at new understandings about how to change some of our behaviours. Whether it is reliving trauma, self-sabotage, or coming to terms with a loss, we sometimes find that the past needs to be acknowledged, processed, and recovered from.
