Dr. Barr specializes in the treatment of Anxiety Disorders.  These include Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, Social Anxiety, Phobias, School Phobia in children, OCD (Obessive-Compulsive Disorder), and Stress.  Since 1988, when he began specializing, he has helped hundreds of people free themselves from the grip of fear and learn how to walk their way out of the problem.

Why, you may ask, did Dr. Barr specialize in anxiety in 1988.  Living in So. California is to live in earthquake territory.  In 1987 an earthquake called the Whittier Quake happened and registered a 6.1 on the Richter Scale.  Dr. Barr was in his office at the time, thought he was going out of his 2nd story window, and had a complete panic attack.  During this episode, he experienced six of the symptoms of Panic Attack, including Depersonalization - an experience of being outside your body, or just being "not there."  This experience had a profound effect on Dr. Barr and gave him a sample of what people with panic disorder may be experiencing.  "If what my clients feel during panic is anything like what I felt during that episode and the lingering effects thereafter, it is truly horrible and something must be done to help."

Dr. Barr has recently become the Director of CHAANGE, Inc., a program he has used for years with hundreds of clients, and CHAANGE is the program that he, himself, used to recover from his own panic episode. This is a cognitive-behavioral type program that helps the client learn new, powerful, and effective tools in coping with fear and anxiety.  Research has shown that these cognitive-behavioral strategies are the most effective strategies in defeating anxiety and regaining life.  Panic and anxiety make life become small and restricted and he is dedicated to helping people expand their life again.

Dr. Barr is currently a co-host of a podcast on anxiety.  The PODCAST is called Life Free of Anxiety, and it can be found at  Please join us for a listen and some interesting discussion on anxiety, what it is, how it works, and what you may do about it.  You may also download a free relaxation exercise from the podcast site.

Dr. Barr is married and has one grown son.  Although he has lived in CA since 1972, Dr. Barr's accent still bears the marks of his native Kentucky, where he was reared.  Dr. Barr's practice covers the San Gabriel Valley and the Greater Los Angeles area.
