My Journey as a Therapist

I began my interest in therapy through my own journey of self exploration and inner healing. I initiated my mental health career as a Registered Nurse working at an inpatient mental health unit where I was supporting clients in acute mental states such as severe anxiety, mood disorders, PTSD, and psychotic episodes. This career choice led to many questions and inspired me to further explore human suffering and mental health disorders. In part of this inspiration I pursued my Masters in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University.
My interest in mindfulness and meditation was a bridge to teachers and mental health professionals that shared alternate perspectives and ways of being. All of this learning has helped me in my practice of Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) along with more traditional talk therapy. I started a clinic with a doctor in my area which has now been established as The Canadian Centre for Psychedelic Healing, located in Thunder Bay, Ontario. At this clinic I offer KAP along with individual talk therapy options. I view ketamine and other psychedelic medicines as powerful tools for healing however I equally believe in other tools of self exploration that I introduce to clients.
My Theoretical Background

Some theoretical modalities I commonly use in therapy are Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Mindfulness Self Compassion (MSC), and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT). I am always expanding my theoretical knowledge and understand that certain counselling modalities may work best for certain people. I have training certifications in Ketamine Assisted Therapy from the Polaris Insight Centre and MDMA Assisted Therapy from the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS). I have completed the class portion of my Masters in Counselling Psychology and am undergoing supervision as the final step towards graduation.
